We loved our short stay at Deer Head Inn. The hosts showed us to the Hemingway Suite which was spacious and spotless! The fireplace was so cozy while we watched movies from the hosts collection. Comfy recliners, great 4-poster bed, jetted tub and scrumptious breakfasts were just the start. The hosts are really knowledgable about local attractions as well as the entire Northern Michigan area. They directed us to great local restaurants and day trips we thoroughly enjoyed. We've booked our return for next spring already!

Room Tip: The Hemingway Suite is absolutely worth the little extra you pay...all rooms are nice, but Hemingway...

My husband and I escaped our lives for a couple of days and choose the serenity and quiet of Mackinaw City (AFTER TOURING SEASON). It was a good plan. All was quiet and the Inn provided comfort and relaxation. Barry and Nancy were wonderful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed breakfasts! While some of the restaurants and common shops (summer t-shirts and fudge) were closed for the winter, we really didn't mind. The Keyhole Bar & Grille was just a block's walk away and had great food. The thrilling view of the Great Lakes going wild in a November gale is pretty awesome too. Then...back to the B&B to relax by the fire.
We highly recommend you consider an "off-season" stay if you are seeking a get-away that is quiet and relaxing.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Hemingway Room. It was very well appointed and felt very private. Really nice fir...

The Deer Head Inn was a wonderful surprise. Our room faced the street but it was very quiet at night. The room was cozy and the bed was comfortable. You do have to carry your suitcases up a short, narrow stairway. Breakfast was outstanding! The innkeeper and his wife were friendly and gave us great tips on seeing Mackinac Island. The Inn is only 2 blocks from the ferry so it is very convenient. I'd definitely recommend this B&B.

I stayed here while attending a conference up north and enjoyed my stay. The room I stayed in was the lighthouse room which was well decorated in a lighthouse theme. The bedding was comfortable with a fireplace in the room. The inn keepers have soaps made up for them that they put in the rooms. The one downside to the rooms was that the I could hear noise from other room which woke me up so I would suggest bringing earplugs.

The house is 100 years old and owned by ancestors of the current owners who are very friendly, they offered lots of travel stories as well as knew the area well. The meals were amazing very good breakfasts and the house cat Socks made an appearance the last day.

The inn is located only a block from the downtown strip of shops and resturants and a few blocks from the water. I felt totally comfortable and welcomed in this Inn.

Room Tip: choose the lighthouse room if you don't want to see the animal theme or stuffed animals in your...

My wife and I made a reservation at The Deer Head Inn based on a recommendation from a friend and great reviews on tripadvisor. We stayed in The Bear Room at the inn during our first visit to Mackinaw City. Barry and Nancy were very friendly and served excellent breakfasts for both days during our stay. They were very helpful with giving us tips on where to eat in Mackinaw City, as well as things to see and do on the island. The room was large and very clean. We were able to see all of the rooms in the inn, and we were glad we chose to stay in the room we were in. This was our first B&B stay, and based on our experience, we would definitely stay at another.

Room Tip: The Bear Room was spacious for 2 and had a separate sitting area that was very cozy.

We stayed in the Hiawatha room, this past weekend (10/4 - 10/6/2013) and enjoyed it very much. Barry and Nancy and kind and interesting people who are a pleasure to talk to. The accommodations are cozy and comfortable and the location of the Inn can't be beat at all. We had a lovely stay, here, and would return in a heartbeat. :o)

Room Tip: The Hiawatha Room has a large bathroom with a claw foot tub, which, of course, I HAD to experience...

Just returned last month from a two week MI/WI vacation and spent two nights at the Inn. The hosts, Nancy and Barry were very nice, warm, and welcoming. We stayed in the Hemingway room and found it quite adequate for the two of us. However, you need to get use to the animals mounted all over the room and the Inn. I guess if you're a fan of taxidermy, its great; if not, you might get a little frightened if you have to get up in the middle of the night. The location was great and in walking distance to the ferry, stores, and restaurants.
