Found a great rate online and was thrilled with the quality of this hotel. I would definitely stay again.

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon last year. The room was spacious. And each room is uniquely decorated, which added a fun touch (we peaked into other rooms while housekeeping was cleaning). The staff were nice but did not go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

There was no swimming pool on the premises, but they had something worked out with a local YMCA or something like that. We did not check out that pool while we were there so I cannot comment on that. I don't know if this is still the case but wanted future guests to know that this was the arrangement last year. But you are very close to the Lake and can easily get to the beach and water from this location.

A little more expensive than other area hotels but worth it. The restaurant and Pub are very good and it's within walking distance of everything. Lots of history in this hotel and worth staying!

This is a very charming hotel with a downtown location that can't be beat! We were in town for a birthday party/memorial day and were able to walk anywhere we needed. I highly recomment the riverfront bike/walking path, it's got great views of the lake. And keep your eyes peeled for iron ore that is scattered about, it makes a neat souvenir.

All the rooms are different and good sized, esp. considering the age of the place. We had a standard room, my parent's had a suite which was large and accomodating for group get togethers. We just wished the windows were able to open, it was such a pleasant weekend! Oh and free wi-fi was unexpected for such a remote location, so I was able to get some work done after breakfast each day, check the weather, etc.

We ate at Caper's downstairs twice for breakfast and had fast service each time. Our last night, we went up to the bar at the top of the hotel to watch a thunderstorm roll in over the lake, it was spectacular. Oh, and the sweet potato fries are the best I have every had, light and crispy, a weird thing to comment on, but there you go! And forget about the prices, my husband's jaw almost hit the floor when he realized the Makers Mark he drinks at home was almost half the price of a bar in the Detroit area.

We were busy with family stuff most of the weekend, but want to plan a trip back soon where we can do more touristy things around town and the surrounding areas. Marquette is an awesome place, I am envious of people who live there (that is until their 6 month of snow and cold, lol!)

Room Tip: Apparently the 6th floor/lilac rm are haunted :)

This gorgeous hotel is one of the best in Michigan. Enjoyed the three restaurant options, great staff and quaint room.

Hotel goes back to the 1930s and has a bit of a history with ghosts. The front desk was a plus, nice and efficient. Beautiful public areas.

The two of us stayed in a suite with one bedroom and a living room with daybed. Great feel to the big room, old fashioned but not fussy or feminine. Original artwork with room named after the local artist. Little fridge was cold enough and there was a table with four chairs, good for eating and playing cards.

The hotel feels classy but wasn't in our experience.

Fireplace in room had some cheesy lightbulb with red paper fluttering to give illusion of fire. Cheap small old TV with half-functional remote. Rooms cold upon first entry.

The suite was clean but the bathrooms had too many stray pre-existing hairs. Don't care how nicely you fold the toilet paper if three-quarters of the roll was used by previous guests. One shower curtain was missing. Scratchy towels. One electrical outlet by the bed didn't work and the lamp was unplugged so entry switch was useless. The bed was large and looked comfy but wasn't.

They were redoing the tavern so there was some disruption in food service (aside from the upscale restaurant). We ordered a couple of sandwiches from the lounge and told them we would pick them up when ready. Long story short: Almost two hours later they brought us the food and deducted 25% for the ridiculous wait and aggravation of multiple phone calls. A class place wouldn't let that happen and certainly would comp the food entirely. Bush.

The free wi-fi barely worked. Frustrating.

All that said, we would stay there again. Better a flawed old place with character than a chain motel.

Neat history of the building. They've done extensive remodeling and it was a comfortable two night stay. The facility is used extensively by the local community. As far as being outstanding for a traveler - not so much, but certainly not unpleasant. The restaurant was okay, but not everything the reviews built it up to be.
