“Great service”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We stayed here for a night since Hampton Inn where we generally stay on travel was much too expensive. The building looks old from outside. The inside is OK. The room was fine since the hotel seems to be renovated, not too fancy but ok.

The staff was really friendly at the front desk. I requested a firm pillow, they sent them but they weren't really firm. They had a letter in the room asking to give them 10 when we get a survey. To me that's a little pushy. I will give you a 10, if I was happy.

Breakfast wasn't included. These days, everyone includes breakfast. There are not too many choices in Marquette so this is not bad.

We have a history of staying at this Holiday Inn when traveling thru Marquette, because for a long time they were the only hotel in town who would accommodate dogs. Even though we did not have a pet on this trip, we chose the Holiday Inn and were not disappointed with the accommodations in our room. It seems like cleanliness only comes with the new or updated hotels, but we were pleasantly surprised with the condition of our room, which was also very comfortable. I do not recommend the restaurant as I found the food to be expensive and not very fresh. Marquette has a lot of great restaurants, and I will chose one of them for breakfast on our next trip!

We ended up at the Holiday Inn via an opaque travel site. While I think we got a fine price, the restaurant was expensive at breakfast time and didn't really fit in with the Marquette market.

The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and updated (this is an older hotel). It was slightly above average. If I had paid the $140 that was available directly at the time, I'd be less likely to rate it a 4/5. Keep that in mind when booking.

Our owners are always looking for ways to improve on the guest experience by keeping the hotel fresh and up to date. I am sorry that you felt the dining room was pricey. We take extra care to shop our local competitors to ensure that our pricing is comparable to theirs. I hope that when you are back in Marquette you will once again choose to stay with us. I stayed here one night while in Marquette on a last-minute trip. While I have attended two or three functions over the years here, I last stayed here in 2006 and 1994, so I was kind of excited to see what the Holiday Inn renovations over the past couple of years have done to this older hotel.

For an older hotel, it’s reasonably well maintained. You could tell it has been renovated in the last couple of years, although the renovations could have been better. Some things -- fixtures, electricity outlets, etc. -- look like they remained despite new carpet, wallpaper, and so forth. The public spaces were clean. The room was fairly clean, although there was a large bug that resembled a cockroach on the floor of the shower when I tried to shower at 7 a.m. That was really gross. The hotel had no other rooms and I wasn't going to wait until later in the morning for it to get cleaned. This meant I didn't shower and instead checked out. Internet was complimentary because I’m a top-level IHG elite member. The speed was fine for most uses. The TV was a flat-screen -- standard these days -- and had a very large selection of channels. I paid over $190 with taxes for a basic room with a queen bed on the ground floor, across from the elevator, housekeeping closet and secondary entrance. This was the worst location in the hotel, as folks stood right by the entranceway -- again, next to my window -- and smoked and chatted away at 2 a.m. And then, the hallway noise started around 6 or so. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well. The room itself was small, especially compared to a relatively large bathroom. Frankly, the room was really too small for all of the furniture, including two chairs. I also thought it unusual there wasn't a closet. Instead, there was a rack next to the TV stand to hang clothes on

No breakfast or dinner was included, despite the very high rate -- I've stayed at much nicer hotel brands for less money -- and my top-level IHG elite status. The staff was friendly, but not overly welcoming. They didn't even welcome me with a “Thanks for staying, Mr. XXX.”

There aren’t many options in Marquette for hotels, so this is about the best you'll get, especially if you value having a pool and fitness facility.

While relatively clean -- ignoring the bug in the shower and a couple stray hairs on the floor --and fairly standard as far as Holiday Inn hotels go, I just didn't feel as if I received a value for what I paid. Perhaps at $75 or even a $100, but not $190.

Thank you for taking the time to share your lodging experience. I sincerely apologize that we did not meet your expectations. As a full service hotel, we do not have a complimentary breakfast. We do however, have a wonderful dining room that offers many breakfast and dinner choices at affordable prices. The bug you described is actually a June Bug. It is very large, and due to our late summer season, they are out and about in rather large numbers. They do fly, and unfortunately they do come in through open windows and doors. We have a very aggressive and proactive pest control program in which we spray the outdoor areas regularly to keep the native bugs at bay. The internet at the hotel is complimentary for all of our guests and is accessible throughout the entire building. I am glad that you had an opportunity to use it. I would love to speak with you personally to go over all of your comments. Speaking with our guests is the best way to find out information which can help us to improve our product and service. If you would like to speak with me, feel free to contact me at 906-315-4224. Sincerely, Ann Armstrong, Director of Sales

Just completed a stay (with a large group) at the Holiday Inn in Marquette, MI. The staff are fantastic. Always greeting you with a smile and always available to help in whatever way you request ..... or they identify. I had several issues with my door lock (my problem ... not theirs) and each person I asked for assistance helped with triple A customer service. By the way: The hotel is nice as well: Clean, modern, convenient. High recommendation for this hotel!

Room Tip: I liked the first floor king size room. I was facing the highway but heard absolutely no outside no...

I stayed at this property many times over my life. This time I was in town for DWTS 2014! I have found this property to be a bit tired in the past. HOWEVER, they remodeled and hit a home run! I booked a suite and loved it! I stay in hotels four nights a week 365 days a year and I have NEVER been smiled at as much as I experienced at the property. I found it to be incredibly contagious, and made me want to swing from the chandeliers in the lobby sing Disney songs! I only wish I could be treated they way they did at half of the hotels I stay! Give them a try!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your lodging experience at the Holiday Inn of Marquette Michigan. I am THRILLED that you had an amazing time at our hotel. It's quite unfortunate that we did not have that chandelier in the lobby for you to sing Disney Tunes from. I like to say that our employees mirror many of the popular Disney songs. You will find that our staff "Whistles While They Work" (Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs), and that we want every one to "Be Our Guest" (Beauty & the Beast), and ultimately we are thrilled to "Be A Part Of Your World" (The Little Mermaid).

Our employees absolutely love their jobs and it truly shows on their face. Smiling is the easiest thing to do when you have great guests staying at the hotel. I hope you had fun at DWTS. I too attended this incredible event and this is an event that everyone should put on their calendars for next year. Your comments are sincerely appreciated and I will be sharing them with our entire team. Sincerely, Ann Armstrong Director of Sales

My room was on the first floor facing the wonderful park like setting. Had a King room with fridge and microwave...nice added features. I was not near the elevator or vending machine..far away from Bar and Restaurant. It was perfect. Nice and quiet! They do not serve continental breakfast but offer breakfast in their restaurant, opening at 6:30 am. Food was good. This was my 3rd stay in 3 weeks and I'll be back. Housekeeping does a bang up job, my room was spotless!
