This place was stunning. Not one complaint. Clean, comfortable & relaxing describe my stay. The food was delicious & the coffee was hot. I loved the vintage decor! There is a garden seat to enjoy a quiet night. Popcorn is available at night for a treat!

Once again, we stayed at the charming National House Inn in historic Marshall, Michigan. From the minute you step into the candle-lit lobby and see the fireplace blazing, you sense the history of the building. From the original plank flooring, handcrafted paneled cupboards and antique decor to the intriguing layout of this historic building, the atmosphere evokes an earlier time when stagecoaches rolled in with guests tired from an arduous journey and were delighted to find warmth and hospitality within. The breakfast was delicious and accommodated gluten-free needs. Architecturally, both in the commercial and residential areas, Marshall is one of the most interesting towns in Michigan. World famous Win Schulers restaurant is within walking distance of the Inn, as is the town itself and the Honolulu House - a must see.

Unbelievably charming Bed and Breakfast that served as a stagecoach stop in 1835, and many things over the years. The National House Inn boasts period furnishings in various rooms and suites with bath facilities modern...but not exactly state of the art. There are two dozen unique rooms, and we've stayed in almost every one! The breakfast is to die for, usually a scrumptious breakfast quiche and other choices. One is greeted by a massive real log fireplace and period accoutrements just inside the front door, and many rooms have a faux fireplace or electric insert. Thankfully, bed mattresses are all modern and comfy! Almost every home near downtown and several blocks in each direction are on the national historic list of homes. Before Christmas, walking down the street of Marshall makes you think that you're in Bedford Falls, and George Bailey will meet you on the street. Marshall was once the capital of Michigan, and most historic homes are gorgeous Victorian Painted Ladies bar none. Mondays are half price at NHI, but the regular prices are quite reasonable. Book far in advance.

Room tip: Go online and check out the pictures of the rooms! Rooms on the street side are close to the street, and a bit noisier.

I'll start with what a great place this is and the owner Barb really cares about the Inn and her customers. When we stopped to see if we could get in at 1:40 since we had eaten at Schuller's noon buffet, a lady whose name starts with a D told us check in is 3:00. She proceeds to tell us that people had not checked out until 12:30. She told us we could leave our car in the parking lot and we could take a walk in the rain down main street. We did walk main street, but ended up sitting in a fast food place and waited until 4. When we finally did check in we were met by Mary who went out of her way to make us feel welcomed. She had cold drinks and refreshments for us plus hot tea. Mary showed us around the Inn and really made us feel welcome. Then at 7:00 she had popcorn for the guests. The next morning we met Barb and learned about the Inn and things to do in Marshall. She was really proud of the National Inn and showed us the original floor that they had fixed up. We stayed two nights and our last morning our breakfast was fixed by the lady whose name started with a D. She came out into the dining area as we're eating our waffles and wants to know who used the whipped cream. Conversations stopped at all the tables and I finally answered I did thinking I did something wrong. She just wanted to say that hardly anybody uses the whipped cream. Most of our time here was very restful and rejuvenating. I liked sitting outside and watching the world pass by. The Inn is centrally located making it easy to walk to most places.

This old bed & breakfast inn has about the longest history of any inn/hotel in Michigan. It was built in 1835, and was the halfway point between Detroit & Chicago on the stagecoach trail. It has been restored with most modern conveniences (cable TV, shower/tub, central heating, etc), while still maintaining the ambience of an historical inn. Pictures of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, & some early pioneer leaders of the area are very prominent. Comfortable bed, hot shower, great buffet breakfast- make sure you try their cinnamon waffles!! Many sitting areas with sofas & upholstered chairs. There are 15 guest rooms on two floors. A great experience if you are in the Marshall area, which is full of beautiful, historic homes & mansions.

We recently stayed one night in the National House Inn. We had a lovely, well appointed room. The Inn was very quiet, the hosts were quite helpful. Breakfast was wonderful and the historic memorabilia on the walls and in every nook and cranny are well worth a look. There is a great deal of history dating to the Civil War related to Marshall. There were also front page newspapers, framed that were interesting.
