“Treated like family”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

We absolutely love going to Birch Shores Resort. We have been going every single summer for years. Everyone is treated like family there. The family that owns Birch Shores are the nicest people and greet us with a hug and give us a hug when we have to leave at the end of the week. The kids love the extra things that they do. On Mondays there is a hot dog roast on the beach, Friday night ice cream social and there are nightly rides in the 4 wheeling truck for the kids. They come running from everywhere for that. The cabins are very clean and are bug free. Which in the U.P. is a huge thing! You have a gorgeous view of the lake from every cabin. A great way to end the day is to go down to the beach and watch the sunset over the lake, enjoy the warmth of a fire and meet new people. I highly recommend Birch Shores if you want a homey atmosphere!

Room Tip: Any of the cabins are a great choice. They all have a wonderful view of the lake and are close to t...

My title really reflects my feelings about this place. My husband says these cabins remind him of the cabins he stays in with his brothers when they go fishing.

We stayed in a duplex, two adults, three kids (16,14,11). It was tight quarters as our bed folded down from the wall at night (picture attached) and two of the kids were in a bedroom with two twin beds very close to each other, and one child slept on the sofa. There is a bathroom with a shower and a small kitchen with basic cooking utensils.

We used this as a base for trips tp Pictured Rocks, Saulte Ste. Marie and Tahquamenon Falls after we had visited Mackinaw.

It seems like a good place for people with little kids as there is a small (rocky) beach and at night all the kids play hide and seek/tag. They tell you that your cabin comes with a rowboat, but the water was rarely still enough to attempt this feat.

Bring your own groceries before you get there because the nearest IGA (grocery) is 20 miles away. The town of Curtis, 3 miles away, had decent pizza, convenient store and a GREAT ice cream shop (Chet&Pats).

The owners were accessible and provided towels- I hate bugs and I remarkably NEVER saw one in our cabin the whole time we were there. Very clean place and it cools down considerably at night, so that makes it comfortable for sleeping (we were there during a freak heat wave).

Thank you so much for your stay and for taking the time to write a comprehensive review of our accommodations! Hopefully next time we will be able to get you into a full-sized cabin with much more space (and no murphy beds). They fill up fast during the peak season so please give us a call ahead of time. We definitely have rustic cabins and most of our customers come for that "up north feel" year after year . . . I think many people enjoy the old-time feel where they can escape from the hustle and bustle of home and get the kids outside to play where they are not so attached to the screens. :) Hope to see you soon!
