“A worthwhile experience”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

I went to this location with friends and family and was suprised by not only the light house but the beach. My host daughter and I went to the top of the lighthouse. The views are amazing. We did pay $3.00 each not $2.00. You will also need a Michigan State park pass or passport to get in but the view and the beach are worth it, plus - this will allow access to other state parks. Don't forget your camera, snacks, drinks, beach toys, etc. There are no close places to purchase these. Parking and access may/will be limited or difficult for large RVs or vehicles. Go early to avoid the crowd.

“Absolutely worth a stop”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Gorgeous views from the top of this lighthouse. It's over 100 feet tall and had something like 136 steps to climb. There were 6 adults (ages 35-45) and 7 kids between the ages of 6-9. One of the children was very scared at the top and his dad had to go back down with him. The rest of the kids had no problems.

There are small areas by windows on the way up to take a quick rest if need be. We wish we had brought our swim suits (or worn them under our clothes) to spend more time at the beach there. The water was crystal clear. Our kids ended up just swimming in their clothes.

Make sure to bring cash with you. The fee is $1 per child and $2 per adult (although their website says $3 per adult, but we were only charged $2 per adult in our group of 13).

If you don't have a Michigan State Park Recreation Passport, you will need to buy one or buy a day pass. Our out-of-state day pass (Cash Only) was $9, but well worth it. If you don't mind a short walk, you can park about a half of a mile before the park, if you can find a spot, in a small public beach parking area.

P.S. Make sure to look back down at the entrance for a good laugh! I'm not going to spoil it for you.

I hope this review helps. If it does, please let me know!

“Awesome site to see!”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

This area you can either make a quick visit to see or you can pack a picnic for the day and stay at the beach. It is neat to walk through the mini sand dune area and an awesome place to take photos for memories to keep or display.

“SO Pretty!”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

This place offers great views, friendly staff, and reasonable pricing to visit the inside of the lighthouse. We stayed very close to the lighthouse and walked here almost everyday. We even caught a sunset here. It was absolutely gorgeous!! A must visit when in the area.

“Great Beach for free down the street”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

My boyfriend and I went here for a day and didn't want to pay the fee ($9 as an out of state day pass) to park in the lot near the lighthouse so we parked in the lot about a half mile prior to the entrace where there was a public beach. It was a small beach but was good enough for us to sit and have some lunch! There was some shallow water that didnt reach out to the lake that would be great for families and then the lake water. We walked down the beach to the light house and relaxed at the beach. The beach you had to pay for was bigger but was crowded for a sunday versus the beach that was smaller and free. Personally didn't think it would be worth the $9 to park when it would be free down the street.
