Owner description: Dow Gardens is truly a garden for all seasons and is open all year. The gardens were developed in 1899 by Herbert H. Dow, founder of The Dow Chemical Company. They include massed plantings of annuals and perennials, a system of ponds, and collections of flowering crabapples, roses, viburnums, and rhododendrons. More than 20,000 tulip and daffodil bulbs are planted in the fall for spring blooms.Famed architect, Alden B. Dow, son of Herbert, added many architectural elements to the gardens. He believed as did his father that the entire beauty of the garden should never be revealed in a single glance. A walk along streamside reveals a curving pathway bordered by lush annuals and a stream, leading to an historic red bridge which takes you to the conservatory.Other attractions include the award winning Children’s Garden, a maze, and a rockery of dwarf evergreens near the entrance. Special events include the annual Christmas Walk, concerts in the gardens, butterflies in the conservatory, outdoor movies, and tours of the estate home.

“Best $10 Ever Spent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Yes, $10 gets you a full year pass to get into the gardens! This is a great place for many things, we have a young family which is great to take the kids to events here, the butterfly house, the gardens in back, the walking trails, etc. While my wife and I have been to wine tastings here, free, yes free music in the park on Wednesdays for lunch in the summer time, etc. Overall just a great place to visit in Midland, watch out for their many unique events held here and attend one if you can, promise you'll have a good time!

“Gem of a garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014 via mobile

June afternoon, 75 degrees on a sunny day...no better time to visit Dow Gardens. Consider getting the year pass at the great price of $10. This is a bargain compared to Meijer Gardens! You can walk across the grass any where, get close to the many mature trees, enjoy the variety of plants, and see the 2 main Dow houses. Next, visit the art center next door. It makes for a great day in mid-Michigan.

“Fabulous all 4 seasons as a great place to walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

We love Dow Gardens. You can walk year round - the walks are clear. There are two .5 mile loops you can take, as many times as you want. An added bonus is the Walking Club which runs in the winter. You earn 1% discount every time you mention that you belong to the walking club. Up to 20% off in the gift store. Excellent. Perfection - excellent for your emotional well being as well as your physical well being.

“Late spring visit while the trees were flowering”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Very affordable and was a immaculate when we visited. You can tell they really pour their heart into maintaining this gardens. We enjoyed our visit which took ~ 2 hours. The flowers weren't in bloom yet so that would have added some time.

“Really great for kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

They have beautiful gardens, a conservatory for butterflies at the right time of the year and an amazing children's garden. They have a nice play fort, sand box, watering cans, lots of flowers and veggies growing. perfect for kids. real nice bathrooms in the back for the kids (places don't think about this often enough, unfortunately). They have classes you can register for gardening classes and the teachers are great. Nice gift shop for unique gifts for your friends for the holidays.
