We've had several occasions to enjoy the fine Italian at Rosa's near Millersburg and Ocqueoc, Michigan. This delightful restaurant is located on the scenic US 23 highway halfway between Rogers City and Cheboygan, Michigan. The dishes are cheesy, flavorful and large. The service is friendly and good. We've dined with family members and as a couple. The prices are good and the variety will keep us coming back. It's our favorite local restaurant and we're always happy to take our company to Rosa's.

We've lived in the Cheboygan area for 18 years, and we discovered this restaurant early on. A little background - this is the third location for this particular restaurant, having previously been in a tiny (I mean tiny!) building, then moving to a location right on Lake Huron, and after a fire, finally it's present location.

We love the salad that comes with all dinners here. Since we've been coming here for so long we've fallen into a routine where we get served our salads and immediately start swapping ingredients. I'm open to all offers of pickled beets, olives, or pepperoncini from those who don't care for them, while I trade my salami and crouton in return. The homemade dressing on the salads is also available for sale if you're interested. Just ask your server. We aren't wine snobs, and always opt for a half or whole carafe of their Fortissimo. It's a great affordable red table wine.

The portions are generous, and we always have to ask for at least one take-out container. Our favorites are The Teodori and the Queen (two of their combination meals) and the Baked Salmon over pasta Aglio Olio. We often purchase Cannoli's to go, as we're usually too full to eat dessert in the restaurant. As of August '11, dinner prices average from $13 to $19. Kids' meals and smaller kids' portions are available.

"Rosa's" and The Chuckwagon (breakfast and lunch) are under new ownership, but both remain excellent eateries, as someone said, "out in the middle of nowhere." Breakfast and lunch are served from 8 am to 1pm. Breakfast is the typical fare: bacon, eggs, toast. But the toast is cut thick, and it's homemade, and the line cook knows her stuff. Excellent home fries...

At lunch, more of the same. BIG juicy burgers, fries and onion rings. I highly recommend the patty melt: big burger, sauteed onions, "swiss" cheese on at least 1" thick homemade rye. Forget the salads, though, at this place: the chef's salad is iceberg with American processed cheese and cold cuts along with raw mushrooms. Split the burger, and rings with a friend instead, and if you're really hungry, try a homemade soup as a starter. The polish stuffed cabbage soup is beyond compare.

And on THURSDAY evenings, at Rosa's (open at same location from 4 to 9 pm), go for pizza. Garlicky crust, the toppings you want, and served piping hot. Be prepared to wait, though, as everyone on Hammond Bay -and for miles around- does Thursday pizza night - to eat in or take out, the wait is generally around 45 minutes to an hour. Salads at Rosa's are a notch up from the Chuckwagon's, and they are not bad as a side or starter - at least there's usually some romaine, and decent dressing choices.

Service can get slow, as they can get busy: but service is always given with a smile, and regulars help themselves to coffee, etc. The atmosphere is quite old-fashioned, but it's clean, and for decent food less than a mile from my cottage, who cares?

Amazing to find a place this good in the middle of nowhere. We've been there twice and both times the servers were personable, the portions were generous, the prices reasonable, and most important... the food was very good. It's simple, yet has a certain charm and the antipasto salad that comes with dinner is outstanding.
