My husband and I purchased a Groupon for the Weathervane and went at the tail end of winter when it was still cold out and the ice just melting on the lake. The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming and we really enjoyed the little shops in the area. Went out at night to watch the March Madness games and met some nice people at the restaurant/bar. Breakfast was very substantial and the cookies at check in were delicious! We loved the hot tub and the fireplace in our room as well. The only complaint would be the walls are THIN. You can hear everything in the surrounding rooms but luckily the other guests were quiet and it wasn't bothersome. Would love to make this a yearly trip!

Room Tip: Get a 2nd floor room otherwise your room goes out into the main breakfast area.

We left the kids at grandma's and had an amazing weekend at the Weathervane. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean and updated, the jacuzzi tub is very nice, and the view is great. I would recommend a lake view room, but if one isn't available, it's a very short walk down to the outdoor seating area. Other than a few antique shops, there's not really much to do right in Montague, although I would definitely recommend stopping at Lipka's Soda Fountain shop. This is our second time here in about 5 months, and we're hoping to make it many more.

Room Tip: Get a corner lakeview room. It's a litle extra, but worth it.

We just loved the beautiful room. The rooms were very well maintained and the beds were extremely comfortable. We loved relaxing by the lake and also took advantage of the nearby trails. We'll definitely be back! What a peaceful place.

We stayed mid week at the end of April 2014. Loved the room. Staff was so friendly. Breakfast was normal, waffles, fruit, found hard boiled eggs in fridge. Loved the Michigan Cherry coffee. Enjoyed the tub and view off room of lake. The trails great for walking. Both Whitehall and Montague close by. Was so happy with them we booked to go 1st of June 2014.

Room Tip: Ask for lakeside.

We booked a 2 day, midweek get away here, and were very pleased. Beautiful location on the harbor with a great lakeside view room...The service was perfect right from check-in to check-out. Friendly staff, and delicious hot chocolate chip cookies at 8 every night in the lobby. Breakfast was the usual continental, with cold cereals, make your own waffles, lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, and delicious, fresh HOT Good coffee in the lobby at our convenience. Handy access to a great hiking biking trail that goes for miles if you can! Montague is a cute...little... town with pretty much nothing to do but the trail...but Whitehall is across the bridge, and has an Ice Cream place, and cute little shops to poke around in....well, Montague has a couple antique shops too. grand Haven is just a 20 min drive away, and has the Coast Guard place, and a great Mainstreet to eat, and do some shopping.

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms all have their own balcony with furniture to sit and enjoy the harbor view. Very plea...

Our room was great. Our check
In went smoothly. Beds were comfortable, bath towels were large and fluffy, everything was clean. However, the morning front desk gal did not have any coffee ready both mornings (Sat and Sun) and when I approached the desk, she was in the back area on her phone and actually looked up and said "what?" On Sunday, when my fiancé went down for coffee, they were again out. When he asked her about coffee, she exhaled in loud exasperation and said "I've got some in back." She then went in the back and her visiting friend with child went around the desk and followed her back there. They were there for a while. She definitely needs to put down her phone, keep the morning coffee stocked and get some customer service skills and general politeness training. If it weren't for her, the stay would have been perfect.

The weathered look of the building was part of the charm. The inside was well maintained. Our room was fresh and clean. The double shower head and heat lamp in the bathroom were appreciated. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They maintain a list of current activities in the area - worth checking out. Location is perfect - 1) overlooking White Lake (make sure you ask for room facing lake) 2) right off of the Hart/Montague bike trail, 3) walking distance to the downtowns, including Lipkas sandwich shop/soda fountain in Montague which has old fashioned milk shakes and a small, but innovative lunch menu, 4) 5 miles from Lake Michigan. The warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies they put out each evening are a treat. The continental breakfast is minimal - probably our only complaint. Pastries and fruit - that's about it.
