“Beautiful tombs”
Reviewed 29 May 2011

Beni Hasan is not far from Minya and is situated on the countryside with beautiful surroundings. From the graves wich is in the desert area, up the cliffs, you have an excellent view of the valley.
The nobles tombs are from Middle Kingdom and contains images of daily life in Egypt and are very lively and interesting. Unfortunately for me, no pictures allowed inside the tombs. Hopefully more people will come and visit this important site in Egypt!

“Very colorful and different - Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 5 April 2008

As you drive south of Minya, the first thing that you will see are what look like thousands of large eggs built up into the limestone cliffs. This is a Muslim cemetery.

The country people here are also very conservative but dress in lots of bright colors - reds, blues, oranges - it is very pretty to see against the backdrop of green fields.

There are 39 tombs in the limestone cliffs dating back as far as 2000 BC (Approx). After climbing the typically high number of steps, you have a lovely view of the Nile Valley below. There must have been an event on the day we visited as we also had background music from the local village below.

We visited 4 of the tombs. They were all very well preserved. One in particular (Tomb of Amenemhat I think) had very detailed pictures carved into the wall and the color was astounding; a lot of vivid greens, not the normal color that you see in Egyptian temples. I would have loved a photo but unfortunately you are not able to.

Well worth a visit. The area and tombs are different to what you see in the rest of Egypt.
