Beau Site Hotel Marsa Matruh
Ranked #7 of 14 Hotels in Mersa Matruh
Reviewed 19 August 2011

I booked Beau Site as it seemed the best hotel option in Marsa Matrouh and wasn’t disappointed. It is a little away from the main centre, at the western end of the bay, but has an attractive outlook across the Matrouh lagoon and its own private beach, which is kept spotless, and is in a quiet location.
For the price, the hotel provides a very good standard of accommodation. Some of the fittings are looking a little tired (particularly the bathroom) but otherwise my room was clean and comfortable, with a balcony giving a nice view along the bay.
I stayed two nights and had my first evening meal at the hotel. It was a set menu, international in style, and quite OK. The breakfast buffet was more Egyptian style and excellent, particularly the second day when there was a bigger spread, probably because there were more guests staying including a sports team (usually big eaters!).
The second evening, I ate out with my driver at Abdu Kofta, which he said was “famous in Matrou”. It deserves its reputation; the food here is superb, with an amazing array of side dishes, excellent service and quite inexpensive.
WiFi at the hotel is via an external provider and connecting up is a complex process involving buying a scratch card, visiting a web site, and receiving a password via an Egyptian mobile phone. However, Marc the duty manager at reception is extremely helpful and logged on for me using his own mobile.
There is an ATM a short walk from the hotel.
Apart from its beautiful beaches and WW2 connections, there are probably not many reasons for tourists to visit Marsa Matrouh but, if you do, Beau Site is a good choice. I would happily stay there again.
As an aside, Marsa Matrouh makes a convenient base if you want to visit the War Cemetery at Saloum, as I did. It is a comfortable afternoon trip by car and having an excellent driver in Essam Mohamed added to the experience.

The service is great with a very friendly staff. Room was clean , all rooms with sea view.
The location is the best in Matrouh, on the far west coast. Food is great but not a lot of varieties.
Best thing there "The Sand and Sea"
Also you have to pay for Internet.

The Beau Site is at the western end of the beach road in Matruh (you come off the coastal road at the main Matruh exit, not the first, eastern-most exit, and go directly north about 12 kms. thru town to the beach road and then turn west or left). The hotel has a good location with a nice white sand beach. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are pretty basic, but clean and each has a balcony with a view of the ocean. The hotel is four or five stories and has three small wings, each with its own small elevator (think small Paris hotel-type). The hotel restaurant is good (we had a meal that included an excellent soup, salad from the small salad bar, fresh bread, fresh whole fist from the sea and desert--cost was about $8 U.S.) and the breakfast was fine. Nice room with a view of the ocean. A number of things to do in the area, besides the beach and diving includes the beaches in the 12-15 km. to the west of town. Also the local market in town was great--we were the only non-locals in the large market area (several square blocks) and people were very friendly (as they are all across Egypt). A great stop when going from Cairo to Siwa (total of 780 kms)--be sure to fill the tank before leaving for Siwa (300 km and no gas stations). (Along the way you can stop and find fossils just off the road.)

After reading the few reviews already posted on the Beau Site, my husband and I decided to give it a try. I am surprised that it only has 3 stars! I have stayed at hotels with more stars and did not enjoy it as much. We were not disappointed at all. We travel to Marsa Matrouh because it is pretty much a hidden gem compared to the other vacation spots in Egypt and it is even more so during the winter or pre-season. I would have to admit that I will only stay at the Beau Site from now on. The other hotels are missing either the great room view and private beach of the Beau Site, are old and unupdated, or simply overpriced. The hotel is clean and has friendly staff. They kept telling us that in the summer things are even better because there is so much more to offer including the dinner buffet and various things of entertainment. If you enjoy a more quiet and relaxing environment, definitely visit in the winter. Otherwise, wait for the summer season.

Oh, and watch out for the balcony door. We managed to lock ourselves out at 2am! Thank God an employee went out for a smoke ;)

I have not stayed here but I have worked in Matrouh for the past year.

This hotel is the best hotel within the town(San Geovani is located about 2 miles along the coast)
In the summer It offers a buffet of a high standard in the beach house costs ~LE60. It also has a private beach where you can hire jet skis.

In the winter a basic choice of food is offered in the restaurant. basically Beef coated in bread crumbs or roast chicken. also the soup is very good.

The staff a friendly and will do their best to please.

We spend only one night in this hotel before heading south to Siwa Oasis. The hotel is clean and the location is awesome with a private beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was not that big but was clean with nice view on the meditterraneean sea. The food was ok and we didn't have much choice. The city itself is active only in summer so most of the restaurants are closed in winter. Bottom line it was a good hotel and will stay again if I have a chance.
