In a perfect location for some of Nature's most spectacular efforts nearby, Manie has built a dream castle and filled it with a bewildering assortment of his statues and artwork. Each room of the castle is staggering and the bedrooms extrordinary - we stayed in the Ruby Room complete with 6m high turret bedroom, jungle and spa with a giant penis tap. The food was personally and perfectly prepared by Manie & Wes and as good as any five star hotel - the interlude for 20 mins opera in the private chapel after main course was inspired. Breakfast was brilliant (forget a pancake at Harrie's). Get up early to grab a few moments with Manie in his workshop if you can. We had unequalled hospitality and a superb stay with hundreds of photos to delight back in the UK. Don't miss this place when in RSA.

We recently booked the entire castle for a murder mystery weekend over halloween. The setting is beautiful in the Panorama route of South Africa's Mpumalanga province, with Kruger park, Bourke's Luck and God's Window all literally just around the corner(s).

The castle itself, as one may deduce, is not historic, although it is built from reclaimed materials which give it a wonderful aged feel, which is further complimented by art deco (in a good way). The castle is decked out beautifully, both inside (including sculptures and paintings from the owner/manager artist) and in the adjoining gardens. Each of the six rooms (4 doubles; 2 suites) has its own theme, including en-suite facilities and stand-alone baths. Particularly spectacular is the Ruby Suite, in "Arabic" style, complete with it's own plunge pool, arboretum and mirrored (!) toilet.

The food and service is excellent- a four course dinner (bring your own wine) and splendid breakfast. All the food is cooked fresh, and indeed in front our your eys in the open kitchen. It was excellent quality and special accommodations were made for members of the group with dietary restrictions.

The castle even has it's own chapel, complete with a 7 foot high Jesus which appears to have been modelled on Chuck Norris. An excellent place to stay, particularly for romantic getaways or groups of friends.

Room Tip: Ruby suite was fantastic!

We stopped here for one night on our way to Kruger - ideally placed between Kruger and the Blyde River Canyon (both a must do in S.Africa). Beautiful rooms, gorgeous food and undoubtedly the best hospitality I have experienced in South Africa. The place itself is amazing and looks every bit as fabulous as the web site. Highly recommended.

The 6 of us arranged to have a "Spook Party" at Flycatcher Castle. Host Danie embraced the project with gusto. When we arrived at the dining area, we were presented with an incredible atmosphere - low lighting, spooky artifacts (Danie is also a sculptor), organ music, cobwebs.

The food was spectacularly imaginative, prepared by chef Mo. The service was outstanding - all plates presented together, correct temperature.

Afterwards, beautiful accommodation greeted our weary heads, each suite named after a Master Classical Composer. Sleep came easily and comfortably.

Planning a road trip in Mpumalanga MUST include at least one night at Flycatcher Castle.

This guest house is breathtaking - every bit as gorgeous as it looks on the website. The food was the BEST - every single meal, breakfast and dinner, and the picnic as well. The BYO policy on bringing one's own booze might look like a pain, but it makes perfect sense for everyone, and they will refrigerate or store your wines for you whichever way you want it.

Nothing is too much trouble for Manie and Michael, and I loved chatting to them both. They were wonderful, humoristic and caring hosts. I particularly loved the fact that we were never rushed - life could take exactly the tempo I needed it to take. I honestly felt pampered and coddled and spoiled every single moment I was at the Castle.
