I have just returned from a tour of South Africa and can honestly say that my stay in Nkomazi was the highlight of my trip. There were so many moments. Elephants wandering, lions lying on rocks baby rhino and mum nuzzling landrover and my magic moment a vast plain covered with a wide variety of animals all living, eating , playing e tc. The staff were fantastic, tents comfortable and a meal outside surrounded by fires Fantastic!!!!!!

Room Tip: all excellent

Where do I start? We stayed at Nkomazi a little over a year ago, and within hours of arriving had decided to hold our wedding there.

Roll on 13 months and we arrived full of expectation.

We were met at the entrance to the camp by the staff singing a traditional wedding song and this set a standard that simply never stopped. Arline & Ulrich are wonderful hosts and have created an atmosphere that we have never experienced in any other camp. Every little detail was perfect, from Arline knowing the tent allocations and names of all 19 guests by heart to the beautifully prepared food, immaculate tents and wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable rangers.

All details of the wedding itself were perfect and the staff went out of their way to make the camp look wonderful.

The game viewing was superb, the first night we saw elephant, giraffe, rhino, every kind of antelope imaginable, and finally a close encounter with a lion just as we were heading back to camp. We simply couldn't have hoped for more.

I won’t go into too much detail, some things are best said simply.

Nkomazi is perfect, go there as soon as you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed.

We had an amazing stay at Nkomazi. Excellent value for money. We loved our luxury tent, the views are beautiful and the service is excellent. The food is great!! The coffee - perfect for coffee lovers:) Our tent had a plunge pool and an outside bath - really romantic. We also had an awesome spa experience on the river. Our game ranger, Paul, was absolutely the best with an unbelievable amount of knowledge and passion. Game drives were really special and we loved the fact that this reserve is not over commercialised - the animals are still wild!! Highly recommend Nkomazi - and trust me, do not be confused by the reasonable prices: this is luxury at its best and sooo worthwhile - excellent value for money. Love the fact that this is still very exclusive and that you are part of nature but in a 5* tent:) The entire team go out of their way to make this a memorable experience - and they succeed!! We are definitely planning to go again.

Spent two night here with a few friends. The accommodation is fantastic! Elegant inside the permanent tents and very private with your own plunge pool and a bath outside, I had a bath at 5am over looking the river with the sun coming up just before we went on a game drive.....a really memorable experience!

The food and staff are also amazing. The whole place is really classy.

The game drives are good but the game viewing isnt great. There arent a heap of game to view but the setting is wonderful and the drinks out in the wild while the sun goes down are pretty special. Really I hope I can return one day.

This was our first Safari so did not know what to expect, and I must say from the moment we were received at the gate to when we left we were continually delighted by the staff, facilities and surroundings of this camp. Nothing was too much trouble here. We were made to to feel that this was our special time. Louise (Guide) I know you'll read this so thank you so much. Not only do these guys take you on drives, but they also do stuff during the day when they could resting. Fishing sessions that turned into long bird watching sessions I will always be grateful for. My wife says the spa is excellent too. Rooms are first class and very private with only 10 in the camp. Not the largest grounds but animal viewing is excellent and huge variety including the big 5. Scenery is stunning with mountains at every back drop.

Thanks guys can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We had 3, very quiet and secluded, but I expect they all have their qualities

Spent 10 days at beginning of Jan 2013 here and loved it so much I've booked in again for Easter. The lodge comprises 10 luxury tented units set on a hill overlooking the rapids of a river. The units are "camping" at its best with a king size bed, complimentary bar fridge, aircon & fan, sitting area, separate bathroom, walk in closet and toilet. The outside V&A claw bath was awesome for bathing under the stars and the plunge pool, deck chairs and umbrella great for cooling off during the day. We stayed in unit 7 which is set slightly higher up on the hill but had great sound from the river (unit 3, where my sister stayed was closer to the river but a bit too noisy). As far as comfort and service go, Nkomazi is superb!

Game viewing was exceptional with our ranger Heinrich who took us on drives, walks, fishing, cycling and combo's thereof. The wildlife is abundant and the "Serengeti plain" is open with short green grass for great game viewing. One drive on the plain we saw lions stalking prey, 6 rhino's, 11 elephant and probably about 400 assorted antelope. They don't have buffalo and you're unlikely to see leopard but saw incredible lion activity of stalking, playing and eating that was pretty unique.

All in all a fantastic experience and look forward to seeing Ulrich, Arline, Michelle, Heinrich and the rest of the staff again in April.

Room Tip: Unit 11 if you like a vista but no river rapid noise; unit 3 is right on the river and rapids are lo...
