The huge size makes you feel small at once and also leaves you with a sense of pride that we are inheritors of such a wonderful history.
I remember studying that Raja Raja Chola had built the Brihadeshwara Temple in History. But I missed the part that the temple complex was maintained and enhanced by later rulers - Nayaks & Marathas. When you visit the Temple complex, have fun figuring out who built what by keenly observing the architecture and calling out the different styles

Made it a point to visit Brihadeeshwara temple early in the morning. Turned out to be a good decision with great weather to go with this glorious site. The main gopuram is majestic and has a inexplainable aura surrounding it. After taking a few pictures, i just sat at a distance gazing at it. So many breathtaking views for the photographers to capture.

Had a peaceful darshan of Brihadeeshwara, thanks to the time of the day

A must visit place.

Main shrine Lord Shiva is the highlight of the temple. Excellent display of ancient tamilian architectural skill,Peace giving location. We can even look at the grami script that are engraved in the pillars of the temple.

Much has been written about this temple - and all I can add is that it does not disappoint. It is grand in size and proportion, exquisite in execution and serene in its atmosphere.

Being a UNESCO World Heritage site, this temple was on our ticklist of places to visit, and it definitely did not disappoint. The grandeur of the architecture was amazing. I'd highly recommend getting a guide for the temple as it really brings the sculpture and history to life. One thing to be aware of with the guides however, is that local shops/artisans give them commission for bringing customers, hence one should avoid this tourist trap.
