“Serious problem with heating and cooling system”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

There is a serious problem with the heating and cooling system that management refuses to address. I have stayed here multiple times and cannot cool my room below 27C. Every time I have called the front desk and they have been unable to help. It is a running joke between all of my coworkers and I. They too have called about it with no relief in sight. Every time the hotel pretends like they have never heard of this before even though I know multiple coworkers have complained. DO NOT believe the canned response that I'm sure is coming: I'm sorry about your recent problem ...

This hotel is great for business. I have stayed here multiple times over the past few years and the service, room quality, and breakfast buffet have been uniformly excellent. There is also a nice workout area and a really impressive spa with sauna, steam room, and multiple baths. There are a few restaurants nearby but it is a 20 minute walk/short cab ride to an area that has many restaurants and bars to choose from. That is really the only issue with this hotel - suboptimal location for bar hopping/nightlife.

I stayed at this hotel 4 times in 2013, while traveling on business. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Suwon on business or pleasure. Arguably the best hotel in Suwon. The staff is courteous and eager to please. The rooms are tastefully appointed with all amenities. Chic decor. Comfortable beds. Cannot really think of anything to complain about in the rooms. The programmable toilet is very easy to get used to! :-) If you get a corner room on a high floor, you will have floor to ceiling windows on both walls of the corner, affording some great city views at night, but the thick double curtains give you all the privacy you need. Only caveat: the rooms in the new wing require you to go up the elevator to the 2nd floor in the main building and walk down a long corridor and then take another elevator up the new tower. Not a big deal per se, but getting to and from breakfast (which is served in the Chefoo's restaurant on the 5th floor in the main building) can be quite a chore, during morning elevator rush hour. Long waits are frustratingly common just to get to breakfast and the location of the stairs is quite non-obvious to first-timers. So ask for a room in the main tower - will make your life easier in the mornings (you can at least use the stairs as a backup to get to your room). Rooms in both towers are very good, so you won't be missing out on anything in the new wing. The breakfast buffet is one of the best I've had (the winner of the all-time best breakfast buffet is still the Sheraton at Frankfurt Airport, IMO, but this one comes close) with a large variety of Western and Asian dishes. The Italian restaurant in the lobby and and the Chinese restaurant (Jinmao) are both very good, making going out to eat purely optional, especially if you are tired at the end of a long work day. I would stay away from the dinner buffet at Chefoo's though. Many of the dishes looked like they were over-warmed leftovers from the lunch and even breakfast buffets. Not very appetizing and not worth the high price. But Jinmao, the classy Chinese joint on the 4th floor, is worth a visit. Excellent attentive service, very authentic Chinese cuisine and a good wine list to boot. I make it a point to eat at Jinmao at least once per visit. The hotel's central location makes getting around easy (via taxi), but do make sure to get the destination and this hotel's name and address written down in Korean before you head out. Most taxi drivers do not speak any English whatsoever. All in all, one of the best hotels I have stayed in.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main tower, preferably close to the 5th floor, to avoid long waits for the el...

Dear, txtravel_dr

Thank you for your great review, we are pleased that you had an enjoyable stay with us and appreciate for you such detailed review!

Also, as you pointed out, one aspect of our New Wing building is that It is a little apart from the main building, so the guests might have some difficulties when they come to the main building, during the morning breakfast rush hour. Despite this fact, some advantages of staying in the New Wing building are that you will have a quieter room and the size of the room is slightly bigger than the same type of room in the main building.

When you reserve the room next time, please tell us your preference and we will do our best to make it possible.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to Ramada Plaza Suwon Hotel in the nearest future.

Warm regards.

My first time at the Ramada Plaza and I highly recommend it. The service was very good, friendly and much better than other hotels in Suwon. The room was well appointed and maintained to a high standard.

The location is good for access to many parts of Suwon and it is an easy walk to restuarants and shops but far enough away to be quiet and safe.

If you are in this part of Korea for business trip, this is the only hotel that offers reasonable accomodation without local rowdiness. Clean and modern building houses spacy comfortable rooms. Staff are without exception courteous and helpful. Breakfast at its onsite restaurant provides both typical western fare as well as Korean items. Italian restaurant on the lobby, though not first rate, is a good place to meet and talk. It also offers live music by Phillipino performers.

The hotel is NOT centrally located; so, if you have business west of the city, there may not be too much advantage over traveling from Seoul.
