It is also known as the "Seat of Might and Power." Ulug Bek built it as a mausoleum for his favorite son who was killed at age 22 in a fall from a horse.

Here you can visit the simple crypt in which Tamerlane wished to be burried. Instead his jade tomb is in a magnificent family mausoleum in Samarkand.
Also the restored mausoleum of Jehangir, Tamerlan's son, is well worh visiting.

Located next to the Dor-At-Tilyavat mosque the necropolis was going to be the burial site for all the Timur family. Dor Us-Siyodat means "House of Power". Emir Timur is, in fact, interred in a sumptous mausoleum in Samarkand and only his eldest son and another family member are buried there.
Reaching the necropolis is a hazardous affair. To reach it you have to travel through a building site crossing a 2 metre deep trench via a rotting plank of wood. Obviously the "Health and Safety" doctrine hasn't reached central asia yet! The photography fee covers both Dor Us-Siyodat and Dor At-Tilyavat.
