We have visited many National Parks and found Pictured Rocks to be underwhelming from the areas you can hike to- it is also a not very dog friendly park so be forewarned- there are not very many trails you can take your dogs on. The best way to see the park is to take a boat tour so you can actually see the rocks from the lake- otherwise you are not going to get very good pictures. The tour may be pricey but it is worth it- see my review of the Boat Tour company for more.

We hiked up to Miners and took pictures and hiked down- we were limited as to the places we could go because of the dogs. I recommend stopping in Muinising first to get a map of the park because there is a lack of signs throughout the park- we drove twenty minutes out of the way because there were no signs.
We stopped at one of the beaches and took the dogs swimming- it was a nice beach and had sandy shores and a sandy bottom.

if you go, see as much as possible. the falls, the trails, the beaches, the boat ride. It's an amazingly beautiful place. The town of Munising is a picture perfect small town gem, We had the best time. When you are hungry get a pasty from Muldoons, and if you want a good cup of coffee go to the falling rock cafe.

Visited this park in mid-August. It is well-worth a trip to visit. We did several hikes out to the waterfalls. We also took a cruise so that we could see the colorful cliffs. The visitor's center has a lot of information about the history of the area as well as information on the numerous waterfalls that are found in Alger County. Some of the waterfalls are visable from the road. Some waterfalls require a short walk. The area is beautiful. We also checked out the camping that is available in the park. The campgrounds around Gemini Lake are very primitive with outhouses and pumpable water. However, they are very close to the lake and have boat ramps. It would be a lovely place to use as a base camp to go fishing and hiking. The campground closer to the waterfalls (Little Beaver Lake) is small and much more populated. I would probably opt to camp at Gemini Lake. We enjoyed the time we spent in this park. It is very well named!

Take your time and see this park. If you are fortunate enough to be able to see it from the water also, do so. Great views of nature.

We took the Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise out of Munising, Michigan. We got in line early enough to sit on the top deck of the boat (outside) and the weather was terrific.

I'm not sure children under 5 would appreciate this; however, the lake is beautiful and so is the lakeshore. This is definitely worth paying for. The narration was good and there was a national park ranger on board who was very personable.

The boat has restrooms and you can pay to purchase pop and chips.
