My wife, son, daughter, her boyfriend, and I were enjoying a vacation on the Upper Peninsula. We were looking for local places to dine. The choices are limited. To my surprise the Falling Rock Cafe and Book Store is a charming sandwich counter style restaurant in the heart of town.
The sandwich menu is not extensive but they do offer some interesting specials that several members of our party ordered on this visit. They do have nice fresh ingredients and are reasonably generous in the portion sizes. A full sandwich and salad was a filling dinner for me.
I should add that we all had chocolate milkshakes. My wife didn't plan to have one but she drank some that another person had ordered and ended up having a whole order on her own because she thought it was so good. These are premium milkshakes, much better than the offerings at fastfood restaurants.
The clerk behind the counter was very friendly, patient with our slow ordering, and helpful in explaining options.
Service was reasonably quick bringing our orders to our table.
The atmosphere is literally a bookstore. There was a trio playing music at the end of the room on a guitar, violin, and wind instrument. It is unique and offers an interesting change of pace from the usual dining surroundings.
The price was reasonable.
