because we arrived late, we took double w private bathroom for $US 26 on the first level beyond the restaurant. the room appeared quite new and clean. the hostel is great, there's a nice bar and a great restaurant (dont miss the pizzas!) and nearby a chillout area with darts and pool table to use for free. we slept well, at 11pm everything shuts down at the bar.
although a convenient place, we found we overpaid our rooms, stayed only a night longer because we were too lazy to change. for $26 i'd expect a bigger room, or at least towels and a mirror.

You enter and come immediately at the heart of the hotel, its bar, its cuisine and pizza oven (They are all delicious!)
Then the pool will be pulling for you some degree of shoulder ... Barbecue in case you come across an evening Surf and turf (lobster grilled).
I was there for the Superball, and I could be in a good pub in the U.S.!
But just in the main Downhill on a volcano!
The equip the hotel brings you to this crazy avanture aboard their truck orange road!
Then arrive at this "big pile of black gravel" you take a good shot of adrenaline has more than 70kph (85 for me) down for a minute!
And you come back for your new friend chill witch with a free Mojito In the hammock or around the pool!

This was our starting off point for our travels in Nicaragua, and it really set a great tone for the trip: It was clean, comfortable and fun!

The hostel is surprisingly large, and all amenities are communal, but it's beautiful and very well kept. There are women constantly mopping (literally) so the place is spotless. The common areas are comfortable and there are plenty of people around to meet and play games with, and there are also enough quiet corners if you need to indulge in a little down time.

Location is very central and convenient. There's a little travel desk right in the hostel to help you make the most of your time there. Many nights of the week they have a shuttle truck to the bars, and they're very helpful with giving advice, information and arranging whatever activities you're interested in.

The owners are young, down-to-earth and clearly love what they are doing!! It was amazing meeting them, and I think everyone should stay there simply to support them!

We actually canceled another reservation in Leon to stay at Bigfoot longer, we were just enjoying it so much.

I will say that our private room was very basic, but the bed was comfortable, the place was very clean, and really what more do you need?? The only area needing improvement was the showers - peeling plaster and lines of little black ants made the experience a tad uncomfortable.. If that was given a quick facelift I would give this place 100% all around!! (Although it definitely wasn't enough of a drawback to not return there or recommend it.)

We definitely need to come back! :)

We spent three nights in Bigfoot Hostel, in a four-bed room. Nice place, very good location practically a step away from everything in Leon (including cheap comedores and fancy restaurants), tasty breakfast (just try the French toast and the cappuccino!), a small but sweet garden (by the way, how are the turtles doing, guys?)... and enough showers, including one with hot water, so you won't need to wait too long even if there are many people in the hostel.

It would be hard to find a hostel caring more about cleanliness than this one!!

They will give you the perfect travel tips. Be sure not to miss the trip to Poneloya & The Surfing Turtle Lodge! And of course, be sure not to miss the volcano boarding! (I still can't understand how I could miss it! My two friends who went were thrilled, they'd do it again and again!)

So yeah, out of all the hostel we stayed in Nicaragua, Bigfoot is our favourite.

I have done my fair share of travel and hands down bigfoot is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in.
I extended my stay there TWICE... It had just the right vibe going on; chilled and laid back during the day but come night, the place switched gear and the bar was packed. They provided a shuttle to the bars in Leon if you felt like kicking on... Which you will : ) the cocktails are too good.

The staff were brilliant, killer bar tenders and they were super helpful with any questions you had about further travel in Central America.

Lastly, the volcano boarding is a MUST! There is something about the adrenaline kick you get when you are flying down the face of a volcano.

The dorms, private rooms (I stayed in both) bathrooms and kitchen were always clean. When I stayed there they were constantly upgrading the place, adding new rooms and changing menu for the cafe.

Definitely Do yourself a favor and go visit them. Thanks team bigfoot!! Legends!! I will be back : )

Bigfoot Hostel was so much fun! The volcano boarding was awesome! Definitely something I can check off my bucket list! The tour guide was nice and funny. The ride there is a little bumpy and the hike up was a work out for sure. The view from the top was gorgeous. There was a mojito waiting for everyone when we got back! Nicaragua is a beautiful country and I highly recommend everyone to visit at least once in your life!

This place was amazing. We were in leon for a couple of nights and the staff and hostel itself made it a great experience. Volcano boarding was a blast and these guys started it a few years ago. It's a very sociable hostel with a fun bar, which provided us a mojito on our return from the boarding :)
