This is the mother of party hostels in Leon. I didn't really enjoy it - but 18-23yr old me would have. An employee of the hostel organized beer pong and other drinking games right outside my room - it was basically a frat party. I was woken up at 2am to what I thought was an earthquake - my bunk was the only one shaking though. After a bra fell on my head, I asked the jackrabbits to kindly find another venue. I shared that story with a couple nice Swedish girls who happened to be both on my bus to Honduras and also stayed at Bigfoot last night. After hearing the story, they reported that the same thing happened in their dorm.
If you want a super fratty atmosphere and don't mind sweltering dorms and gross facilities, this place is for you. They DO foster a fun community and bring strangers together. The drinks are cheap and the food is good. There's a pool table and hammocks and weak wifi. 21yr old me would've loved this place.

Room Tip: Some of the dorms had lofts that seemed more private. Otherwise get a bed close to a fan.

Thank you very much for your honest review. We cherish this feedback because it allows us to improve on our services. We do agree that you deserve a quite and comfortable stay while at out hostel. In response to your review, we are now separating the bar area and the dorm entrance with a door to reduce the noise. The drinking games will now be moved to the bar, we're building a fold up flip cup table to accommodate that.

I hope you consider visiting us again if you return to Leon. We are sincerely sorry about your negative experience.

Had such a great time at Big foot! Volcano boarding itself was awesome, but the trip as well. Our guy had lots of energy and created a cool group. Afterwards we had dinner cooked on the barbie which was very good. After we drank some mojitos and very special rum with jalapenos. I died drinking it, but many had a good laughter. Dorms are ok, hostel is clean. Very nice hostel for young people would def recommend it.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. BBQ night is the best, it always bring everyone together, just like a family style BBQ should. Next time, try the shot on it's own. Even better, treat someone to it!!!

We stayed here for 3 nights over NYE. This hostel is quite large, with a bar that serves food at the front. The overall atmosphere is pretty industrial, didn't find it easy to meet people (compared to the other hostels we stayed in). The bar was convenient to have, however, the loud obnoxious music (who chose the music anyways??) was really annoying after the first hour there. It will blare all day/night and is turned on early morning. Volcano boarding was sick, but could've done it from any hostel. Ended up going to the NYE party, which started out fun by taking the volcano boarding truck with a lot of people (which was a few hours late) to a deserted island with a hostel on it for 10 bucks each. The catch: you were stuck there until 4am... Not so fun after all. By the end of it, everyone was sleeping around a fire...
The hostel itself was relatively clean... The rooms have no windows though so be prepared to feel like you are in a dungeon. The place is infested with cats, and their kittens, which have fleas...found some on the beds of the bunk rooms. The entire back by the washroom smells like garbage, probably because the garbage is dumped back there... I'm thinking they should do something about that.. I definitely love a party spot, but not this place.

Thanks for pointing out some of our flaws, we sincerely regret this contributing to a less than enjoyable stay with us. We are fixing up an isolated area for our rubbish, it will be isolated enough that it will not be a nuisance to our guests.

Good news concerning the playlist, we're now playing Triple J's Hot 100 and asking our guests to contribute with some of their favorite songs so we can play a little bit of everything. I for one, agree that we needed to change up the music. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.

We'll also call in the vet for another visit so we can keep and eye on the kittens.

Come back and get your groove on with us!

Thanks Sebastian! We're glad you had a good time at the hostel and Volcano Boarding. The more the merrier applies to Volcano Boarding. BBQ night is also a huge gathering to warm up for the party bus.

I didn't stay at Bigfoot, but did take the volcano boarding tour. I arrived there before noon, chill out with some friends at the bar, which offers free internet. Volcano boarding was awesome, a must do experience in life, be ready for a ~30 mins hike and ~1hr truck ride to the volcano. Buy water before leaving for the boarding part and don't carry any thing you don't necessarily need. Once the ride finished they offer you a Mojito to celebrate. I had more beer time with new friends and dinner there, facilities were clean, nice environment and good price for the food. Highly recommended.

Thanks for recommending us with this review! The mojitos are almost as popular as volcano boarding. We try to create a cool environment, glad you enjoyed it.

Didn't stay there, but booked the volcano boarding tour. Wasn't sure at first because of safety reason, but finally it is as secure as you want it to be ! It's possible to go slow and safe if you want... or fast and crazy !

Well organized with truck ride to go, suits, boards and beer coming back if you are able to drink it on the bumpy road !!!

Safety is always the #1 concern with our Volcano Boarding tours. You can make it is extreme or as chill as you want. Our guides are all trained to instruct on the safest methods for riding the boars and we provide protective gear to reduce risk. The beer and mojito are the perfect cap for this experience, it brings everyone together to mingle and share travel stories.

Where to start? This place is absolutely amazing and a must stop for any backpacker in Central America.

Incredibly clean (literally they mop non-stop here), friendly staff, great atmosphere, everyone is having a good time whether it be chilling with friends over a beer or one of the fantastic mojitos at this place, playing pool (or playing in the pool :D ), jenga, darts or chess. One night they even got a drinking game going that got almost everyone in the bar involved, it was absolutely nuts. Amazing night.

The rooms were nice, not expensive. They have their own cafe in the hostel serving local dishes and western staples like pizza, hamburgers and french fries. I highly recommend the Nacho Libre Pizza! SO GOOD!

Of course the reason most people come to Bigfoot is for the Volcano boarding which was an experience. They take you out to the volcano in the back of a big orange truck, and then once you get to the volcano you hike up it and sled down. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and fun. He taught us everything and answered all our questions, I mean really, you are climbing up an active volcano to sled down it, can seem kind of freaky, but it was a once in a life time thing (maybe, might come back and do it again). So worth it!

All in all a great place to stay, I recommend it to anyone planning on staying in Leon.
