“Ok, not much to see”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

Having previously been to San Juan del Sur, I was disappointed by Poneloya. It's not as stunningly beautiful, there are much fewer restaurants (and the one we did find didn't have very good food), and not much to do besides walk on the beach.

“Pacific Ocean”

It's one of the most popular beach in Nicaragua located 20 kms from the city of Leon. In the beach you can find simples but good restaurant where eat fish and all kind of see food, the prices are cheap about 10$ for meal. In Poneloya you can find hotels and hostals where stay a few days for a relaxed period.

“There are better beaches in Nicaragua”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

The relative quiet is plus, as is the abundance of freshly caught fish at a reasonable price. But the beach is far from pretty and not very swim-able either. IF you are in Leon, go see volcanoes and the night life, if you are looking for a beach go to San Juan del Sur

“wide open spaces”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2013

Imagine miles of white sand and pounding waves with no one around. I took a picture one day of three people on the beach as it was a huge crowd. It is nirvana if you are a surfer. For us short people who don't surf, plan on going in the water during low tide.

“Sunset”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2013

Got to see a sunset on the beach and it was beautiful. Lots of locals frequent the area as well as surfers (the only ones who can really navigate the water there; not ideal for swimming) as well as tourists, so a nice blend.
