We were so very glad to see this boutique hotel bathed in light the evening we arrived in Leon. I knew this was it- the perfect colonial renovation to do justice to this beautiful city of Leon. We escaped from El Convento which predisposed my husband to an asthma attack on arrival and found the best accomodations in town!! Fabulous staff, fanastic GM and owners who made us so comfortable and lent us so much historical knowledge of the area and the possible future for Leon and Poneloya the nearby beachfront/estuary area. Thank you for your introduction to your passion La Perla and Poneloya!! We had a tremendous time, learnt so much from you all- and we will return as things unfold.
Our room was perfect, plunge pool refreshing, restaurant and bar very metrocontinental and service so friendly and laid back if invited yet very attentive and unobtrusive at the same time.
This hotel and its staff will endeavor to look after any of your needs you just need to ask.
Thank you all!

Drove from El Salvador to Leon to escape the elections in El Salvador last March. Although I don't recommend the drive, the stay at La Perla made it well worth the drive. We went to El Salvador for a two week vacation and didn't realize until we arrived the elections were taking place.

The hotel is very romantic. From dinners in the dining room to break fest in the outdoor garden- it reminds one of elegance seen in movies from the 1940s-1950s. Highly recommend 2nd floor rooms with the high ceilings and the solid wood doors. Something new hotels simply do not offer.

The food is wonderful. We tried a few other dining options in Leon- but La Perla is the place for dining, nothing else came close.

This is a hotel to relax. No stress from the moment we entered to the moment we departed.

One note, if driving from Honduras to Nicaragua, make sure you purchase the $12 insurance card at the border crossing. We didn't because we bought insurance coverage with the rental card- but found out this $12 insurance card is a requirement for all drivers in Nicaragua.

We stayed at La Perla on the first night of our trip and did not want to leave. The owners were so friendly- even gave us a personal tour of their hotel and told us how the Panama canal was almost built in Nicaragua. The location is great- close to the cathedral ,shopping and great bars and restaurants. As others have said, they have the best coffee at La Perla. We each bought several bags to take home with us. The free wifi was a plus too so we could post photos from our adventures in and around Leon. The hike up Cerro Negro volcano and sled down was very fun!

We had been traveling for 7 days when we came to Leon tired and in need of comfort. La Perla was magnificent. The staff were efficient and courteous, the dining excellent, and the rooms well decorated and comfortable. The Hotel itself has been completely restored and is magnificent. It is close to the plaza and attractions. Leon was my favorite stop in Managua, and La Perla was the top reason. For anyone traveling close to Leon, La Perla is a must stay.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel La Perla for 5 days during May 2009. We highly recommend this boutique hotel to anyone visiting León, Las Peñitas or Poneloyas Beach. Attention to details from staff and owners Jim Peterson and Mark McBright is constant. Rooms are impeccable and well decorated, nice and comfortable queen size bed, flat screen tv, plenty of room and closet space, fresh linen and towels. A/C worked fine at all times (believe me you will need it in León). Delicious breakfast is included with fresh juice and coffee brought from Jim's plantation. Don't leave without tasting this coffee, the best in Nicaragua. Also complimentary with breakfast "La Prensa" morning edition, great way to start your day. La Perla is conveniently located in the center of León, within walking distance of most restaurants, markets, plazas and churches. Hotel staff is courteous, helpful and friendly. Hotel security personnel always alert and visible. The price for the hotel shuttle service might be a few dollars more but is worth it, we went to Montelimar in a brand new van with air conditioning and radio, chauffeured by a safe, courteous and uniformed driver. When we arrived to Montelimar and saw our room we wanted to go back to La Perla, too bad that the driver was gone! Jim is a wonderful host, incredible friendly and helpuf, in a few days we became friends. He will go out of his way in order to make your stay a wonderful experience. We hope to go back soon!

We stayed at La Perla for five nights at the end of a tour around Nicaragua. Even after reading the great reviews La Perla has received on TripAdvisor, we were still amazed at what an outstanding hotel this is.

I travel extensively with work - and am fortunate enopugh to stay in some nice hotels, however, I can honestly say that I have never stayed in a place that offers such an excellent all round package. The quality of the furnishings and fittings was subilme, the helpfulness of the staff incredible and the food was gorgeous.

Given my review, it won't surprise you to hear that this was the nicest place we stayed in in Nicaragua. Would we return? Absolutely! It is only a shame that it is so far form the UK. As others have said, Jim is a fabulous host, who makes you feel genuinely welcome in his gorgeous hotel. His perfectionism is demonstrated by the hotel, which is a credit to the hard work he clearly puts into the place. If we ever return to Nic' we will certainly be heading back to La Perla.

I would highly recommend staying at the La Perla. I spent a week in Leon, Nicaragua and stayed the entire time at La Perla. It is a quaint and beautifully refurbished building with 15 rooms, an open courtyard and lovely pool. La Perla is conveniently located in the midst of Leon near the main square and is within walking distance of most things. I was traveling with 4 other colleagues and we were all able to get rooms around the pool - score! The owner and staff were very accommodating, polite and gracious. For example, we were getting up at 3:30am for work and the staff happily made us breakfast each morning at the very early hour (included in the price of our stay). At night, we mostly dined at La Perla as well and found our meals to be reasonable and delicious. Our rooms were clean and it was very quiet at night. The best part of La Perla is the owner and staff - they totally doted on us!! It was a perk to have such a personal experience. Anyway, we really enjoyed our stay. I would definitely stay here again.
