The hotel is quite typical of Germany/Alsace, but the restaurant is fantastic. While it was more expensive than the other places we dined at in Andlau, the meal was the best. The onion tarte/ Riesling chicken/sorbet 20 euro menu was great. My husband enjoyed his foie gras and steak, though those menu items were more expensive. The wine selection is nice and reasonably priced.

I recently spent a week in Alsace, hiking from town to town and stayed at 5 hotels. This was one of the nicer ones. The room was a good size, nice bedding, one of the better restaurants (at least associated with hotels) that I tried. Breakfast wasn't anything special, but wasn't at all bad. Reception was incredibly helpful and kind, understanding that after a few hours of walking in the rain some wine and then a soak in a warm bath would be just the thing (and yes, there was a bathtub in addition to a shower hose).

We were here as part of a Sherpa walking tour in Alsace (Sherpa arranged this in advance so we don't know what the room rate was). The woman at the desk, who spoke no english, was a bit perturbed that we arrived from a day of walking in the rain and were soggy and our boots were less than clean (although we'd tried our best to clean them on grass before arriving). So we did take them off (fair enough) before going to our room. The hotel is very clean and extensively decorated in the "alsacian" cutesy style. The room was comfortable and the bed was good. We had the half board option so had dinner at the hotel's restaurant as well as breakfast, and the food was excellent. WiFi was free.

Kastelberg is a friendly hotel with a good restaurant in Andlau. The owners are very friendly and helpfull and speak German and English besides French. The room was comfortable but not modern. The WiFi connection was a bit slow, but both dinner and breakfast were excellent. More a place for a holiday than for business, but nevertheless ok for a couple of nights.

We were welcomed very pleasantly, even though we arrived well before midday, and our room was immediately available. Our room was large, comfortable and well furnished. The bathroom was large, newly refurbished and very attractive, with a good shower. There was, sadly, a lot of road noise from vehicles and harvesting equipment early in the morning.

The fixed dinner and the breakfast were both excellent. The proprietors and all the staff were very pleasant.

This stay was at the end of Day 14 of our 25 day trek through Les Vosges.
Previous night: Hotel Le Manoir in Barr
Tomorrow: Hotel Dontenville in Chatenois

Room Tip: A room at the back might be quieter in the early morning though noise may only be a problem during grape harvesting.
