“A wonderful experience”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

This is wonderful place to spend the night. Over the 11 or so years he has owned Les Pres d'Ondine Stephane has made this hotel special in his own unique way, from restoring the building and adding and additional storey to the building to the detail in the decor this entirely reflects his character as does the casual but detailed service he offers his clients. Others have written about his service methods, not to everyone's tastes to be sat on a table with other guests and with a fixed menu but it suited us nicely and we met some lovely people. Like the other guests we were just passing and we'll be tempted to just pass again in the future.

We visited this hotel in May of 2012. It was our sixth day of our vacation, which had been fairly stressful because of rain and driving conditions. My back was hurting and we weren't really sure of where we'd be staying from day to day. I'd researched this hotel before we left home. One of the things that stuck in my mind was the jacuzzi, which I was craving when we arrived without a reservation (not normally my standard way to travel but I'm a bit more flexible when we have a car). As soon as we drove up and I walked into the hotel, I knew that this was the place for us. Fortunately there was one room left, which was amazing when we realized that this was the start of a very long holiday weekend (May 1st/Labor Day). Stephane was a charming host and made us feel immediately at home. He allowed us to store a few of our food items in his refrigerator. Our room was on the first floor (up one set of stairs) and was spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom was large. We had a television with many choices of channels. We first took advantage of the jacuzzi which was at a large window looking out over the backyard that Stephane was tending to while we had a long soak. Afterwards we had a glass of wine at the side of the river that runs along the back of the property. They have gourmet dinners on the weekends but we weren't aware of that and were only staying one night. Next time we will make sure to try the meal. The morning breakfast buffet had a lot of choices and it was nice to chat with the other vacationers. Several of them were from Germany on a holiday weekend. When we checked out we were heading for the Route du Vin. Stephane gave us some suggestions of the best ones to visit and we weren't disappointed with his choices. We would gladly stay at Les Pres d'Ondine again. We would make it our base for wine tasting tours. It was much more relaxing than our stay in Ribeauville which was charming but overrun with tourists.

Stephane is an excellent host. The hotel is a really charming one. The owner cooks the evening meal on request and I recommend to select this option, in order also to get in touch with other guests. The breakfast is a little too expensive, but the quality is there.

Our host Stephane was really great and made us very welcome. He cooked us a wonderful meal on our first night complete with a selection of local wines. He speaks fluent English which was a real bonus since our French is not good. We stayed for eight nights (August/September) and have no complaints. Our corner room on the first floor was very clean and comfortable. The location of the hotel is perfect for touring the region of Alsace and Stephane was very helpful with information and advice. Breakfast at the big table with other guests was entertaining and there was a good selection of food and drink. We are more than happy to recommend Les Pres D'ondine.

We were very fortunate to come upon this hotel during our travel to Selestat. It is an excellent value, especially during the week. The hotel has lots of old world charm and the rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and very comfortable. The setting is truly beautiful, with a nice large yard right on the river. Definitely more like a B&B than a hotel, with dinner served to guests (for an extra fee...we did not partake). Highly recommend!

This was a small, beautiful hotel in a charming location right next to a river. The inside was totally charming with lovely furniture and decoration. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quite large. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bathroom had a large tub. They had free wireless internet too. They served an excellent breakfast with homemade bread. The owner was extremely helpful and spoke excellent English. The hotel is located very near Selestat and it is any easy drive to many of the towns on the "Wine Road." It is also very convenient to the castle Haut-Koenigsberg (17km). I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Lovely and relaxing old world charm with comfortable beds, soft linens and pretty grounds overlooking a river. Owner attends to all needs and hotel and property are nicely located near town but has more of a countryside feel. Our favorite place to stay while in the Alsace region.
