“Great Location For a Quick Stay in Muskegon”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

I spent a night at the Holiday Inn Muskegon for work trip and enjoyed myself. I didn't have a chance to try the fitness center or the pool, but could see the pool from my room and it looked busy but big enough to accommodate the crowd. Pool is open until midnight with 11P-12A as adult swim.

Breakfast is available, but not complimentary. If you want to go a little ways out of the way there's a diner called Carmen's .4 miles away that does a great job rockin' the diner theme, with bottomless coffee. The hotel is also a .4 mile walk (opposite direction) from a really scenic section of Shoreline trail that is good for watching sunrises and sets over Lake Muskegon. Other walkable attractions: monument to snowboarding (just around the corner of the hotel), outdoor farmers' market, Hackley and Hume houses, Monet Gardens, and Hackley Heritage Trail.

Wifi is included, pillows are super comfy, coffee is available in your room or all day in the lobby downstairs.

We booked here for 4 nights after driving down from Traverse City on vacation. We got a nice friendly welcome but the hotel didn't have a street map we could use. The room was nice and clean and spacious. I had asked if the wifi was secure and was told it was, needing a userid and password - but it didn't turn out to be. No one in the hotel could help with getting secure access and the staff were not very helpful. As it turned out the hotel Business Centre had secure access so all was well. Overall the service in the hotel was mixed - sometimes good, sometimes much less so. For the price I would have expected staff who were more willing and able to help. Muskegon did however provide a good base from which to explore the are and also get the ferry across to Milwaukee.

Room Tip: Avoid connecting rooms - there is virtually no sound proofing between them.

Paid a lot of money to stay in dusty, dank room. Beds were comfortable but the lack of cleaning was disappointing. Baseboards and air conditioner dusty, bath tub could stand a good bleaching. The breakfast buffet was terrible. Eat out if you want to avoid dried out, two shades of yellow eggs and oatmeal with a crust on top.

Staff here are were extremely friendly and helpful! Quick check-in, and our room was clean and spacious. Beds were very comfortable, and our night was quiet.
Enjoyed a late dinner in the Third Street Grill- the fried perch sandwich was delicious, and our server was friendly and provided excellent service. Grounds were well kept, and there were some very interesting buildings and sculptures visible from the room and the Third Street Grill.

dismal, tired, unclean, noisy. This was our stop between Chicago and Detroit. Could have easily stayed at a less expensive hotel. This was more like a motel 6 than a hotel. Two kids were completely bored and couldn't wait to leave. The price was almost as much as our Chicago hotel

I haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn in many years, so I wasn't too optimistic. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. The rooms were much more spacious than other hotels and very comfortable for family of 4. The restaurant (Third Street Grill) was very good for dinner and the breakfast was pretty good too. We stayed here while visiting Michigan's Adventure and would definitely stay here again.

Although there isn't exactly a huge choice in Muskegon for hotels, this is easily the best. Rooms are ok-clean( a few carpet stains but nothing a good re-furb wouldn't take care of), beds decent and if you score a good room, you get nice views over the lake. Food in the bar downstairs is excellent and the service from the guys down there, Travis and another guy who's names escapes me, is top-notch. Plenty of (free) parking, subway restaurant right across the street and just a few blocks walk away from a very good irish bar. Also if you fancy it, the park down by the redeveloped harbor is really nice. Only real downside is the noise from the train that thunders past at silly o'clock and wakes you up but that's hardly the hotels fault. Also the 'free high speed internet' is nothing but...however that's a problem with almost every hotel in America, one day they will realize what 'high speed internet' actually means. Stayed here 3 times in last 12 months and i have no concerns in coming back.

Room Tip: lake view rooms are excellent. Avoid the poky rooms at the end of the corridors.
