The hotel was beautiful! The rooms were clean, spacious and quite. The beds were very comfortable. Checking in and out was quick and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool, hot tub and sauna stayed open until midnight, which was great! The food that the bar/room service provided was reasonably price and very tasty. I also like how they coffee, tea and flavored water available for everyone. I like the shopping that was close and showcase the local merchants. I would definitely stay here again. I like the grandness of this old hotel. I also commend them for being environmentally responsible, but not having mini refridgerators constantly running in all the hotel room. (see tip below)

Room Tip: If you need a mini fridge, call down to the front desk and they will bring it up to your room right...

After 8 days and 7 nights, I can honestly say this is a completely adequate hotel. It's an older building, and has had some updating, but it's the people who really make it a good place to stay. For example, the bathrooms are small, toilets are low, and there's an old-fashioned clothesline that pulls out from a fixture above the tub, but when I needed extra towels, they brought them right up. There are 2 coffee areas near the front desk, and coffee is always fresh, hot and handy. One late afternoon and early evening, one of the 2 elevators broke down. It really caused a lot of back-up as families were checking-in, but there was a crew on the problem immediately and it was fixed by the next morning. Another day, one of the sliding front doors stopped working, but again, a maintenance crew was called to fix it and by the next day everything was back in good working order. The lobby is beautiful, and there is a nice thermostat feature in each of the rooms, as well as a bar, but unless you have a reason to be in downtown Muskegon, there's not a lot going on. There is an excellent restaurant about a block away in the Culinary Institute of MI, as well as a number of other smaller places within walking distance that have very good food, and a real gem of a museum, as well as a fantastic farmer's market also just 2 blocks away from this facility. All-in-all, I'd stay here again when in the area, but be aware, breakfast is NOT part of the deal, so be prepared to feed the family elsewhere. Finally, just as an aside, if you like firm mattresses, this is probably not the place to visit - my mattress was like a soft cloud - pretty, but not much support.

This hotel is ok. I thought the rates were high for the area. Not much within walking distance and the downtown area is pretty much nonexistent. We drove to the Lakehouse waterfront grille and the food and view were very good.

The hotel itself is generally fine but compared to the price ($160+ night) its just not worth that much. It is Holiday Inn after-all, but I'd expect much more value for that price regardless of the brand. The room was (barely) comparable to a $100-$120 night, say Hampton Inn, with small microwave and mini-fridge, a desk (well, table really), a chair (too large to easily move around and not comfortable to use at the desk/table itself. The beds were comfortable enough and the room was generally clean.

The bathroom (room was on 4th floor) was fit for purpose but barely fit for use ... what I mean is that the toilet had a lazy/slow flush, the shower water pressure was poor (both in the night and in the morning), the tile work was shoddy, the fiberglass surround in the tub/shower had holes in it (where a soap or wash cloth bar used to be) which were fully exposed so water from shower was easily going into these 1 inch jagged holes.

The pool looked nice but the water was hazy. The pool also had an odd liner in it which didn't quite meet and cover the corners (leaving like the bath surround, gaps where water was going behind the liner). It felt like a cheap cover-up instead of keeping up with adequate maintenance or repairs of the original pool.

The surrounding area is an odd-mix of an attempt of a down-down atmosphere but surrounded by stark dock and industrial business complex. This is an odd area for sure.

However, if you are staying for the state parks or Michigan's Adventure, this isn't an awful choice ... there are not too many choices and they all are over-priced for what you get. Considering the small-town atmosphere and small-town choices, the prices are large town in size.

I spent a night at the Holiday Inn Muskegon for work trip and enjoyed myself. I didn't have a chance to try the fitness center or the pool, but could see the pool from my room and it looked busy but big enough to accommodate the crowd. Pool is open until midnight with 11P-12A as adult swim.

Breakfast is available, but not complimentary. If you want to go a little ways out of the way there's a diner called Carmen's .4 miles away that does a great job rockin' the diner theme, with bottomless coffee. The hotel is also a .4 mile walk (opposite direction) from a really scenic section of Shoreline trail that is good for watching sunrises and sets over Lake Muskegon. Other walkable attractions: monument to snowboarding (just around the corner of the hotel), outdoor farmers' market, Hackley and Hume houses, Monet Gardens, and Hackley Heritage Trail.

Wifi is included, pillows are super comfy, coffee is available in your room or all day in the lobby downstairs.

We booked here for 4 nights after driving down from Traverse City on vacation. We got a nice friendly welcome but the hotel didn't have a street map we could use. The room was nice and clean and spacious. I had asked if the wifi was secure and was told it was, needing a userid and password - but it didn't turn out to be. No one in the hotel could help with getting secure access and the staff were not very helpful. As it turned out the hotel Business Centre had secure access so all was well. Overall the service in the hotel was mixed - sometimes good, sometimes much less so. For the price I would have expected staff who were more willing and able to help. Muskegon did however provide a good base from which to explore the are and also get the ferry across to Milwaukee.

Room Tip: Avoid connecting rooms - there is virtually no sound proofing between them.

Paid a lot of money to stay in dusty, dank room. Beds were comfortable but the lack of cleaning was disappointing. Baseboards and air conditioner dusty, bath tub could stand a good bleaching. The breakfast buffet was terrible. Eat out if you want to avoid dried out, two shades of yellow eggs and oatmeal with a crust on top.
