“A really nice holiday in Monflanquin”

We spent 3 weeks from June 28th in this very well restored old barn 4 kilometers from the old bastide village Monflanquin. It's a wonderful stone building with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a large living room with an open kitchen area. Outside there is a very nice heated pool and a barbecue area. The house is absolutely beautiful and very well adapted for wheelchair users. The owners live on site and are very helpful and really nice people.

Monflanquin has some nice restaurants, we especially liked Aldayaa which serves excellent Lebanese food. We also liked Le Jardin which serves traditional French food. Within 30 minutes of driving there is a huge choice of good places to eat, including one-starred Michelin restaurants in Villeneuve-sur-Lot (La Table des Sens) and in Sainte-Sabine (Etincelles). We would also highly recommend a visit to Les Ganivelles in Villebramar. Great food of local produce and very reasonable prices.

The Casino supermarket has a good selection of groceries and wine and is only 3.5 km away. Monflanquin will have all the shops and services you need.

During our stay we visited Bordeaux, Bergerac and Agen and small bastides like Pujols and Monpazier. If you bring a bike there are several nice routes you can enjoy.

We have stayed several places in France and this is simply the best! The house itself is perfect, you have everything you need (shops, restautants etc) within a short distance, and the view across the valley to Monflanquin is fantastic.

We have already booked for next summer!

“A perfect getaway for families!”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Fantastic house in a fantastic area, with the cosy medieval village of Monflanquin around the corner. Jim and Jo were great hosts with lots of tips and knowledge about the area.

The house and pool are 100 % top quality and great for families, and we had a wonderful time!

“A relaxing holiday in rural France”
Reviewed 5 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We spent an excellent week at the Gîte in September (7th – 14th).
The property is located in a beautiful part of France and has first-rate facilities - combined with welcoming and knowledgeable hosts makes it an ideal place to explore this area while enjoying a relaxed pace of life.

We enjoyed numerous activities and would recommend: -
Local walks – around the Gite and into Monflanquin.
Al fresco dining on the terrace - fresh figs for breakfast from the garden and BBQing a variety of meats from the Boucherie in Monflanquin.
Days out to the market at Issegiac combined with visits to Bergerac and the Château at Monbazillac (including wine tasting) or exploring the beautiful Bastide towns of Monpazier and Villereal combined with visits to the Châteaux at Biron and Gavaudun.
Kayaking/canoeing down the Dordogne - watching the world go by with outstanding views around every bend.
The food – the wine – c’est la vie !!

We will return…..

“A tranquil idyll and well equipped accommodation”
Reviewed 11 September 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We stayed for 10 days between the 14th and 23rd of June.
A beautiful location situated just a few km south of Monflanquin. Jo and Jim are very hospitable and helpful hosts with an excellent knowledge of the area, but be wary of Jim's razor sharp humour.
There are several country lanes close by which take you through the countryside, via farms, vineyards and orchards to the local towns, and ideal for an early morning run to burn off all the gastronomy. Monflanquin is a pretty medieval town with 4 or 5 excellent restauarants, boulangeries and a really good bar where we watched the Lions whoop the Aussies. There's also a decent supermarket, Casino, in the town.
There are many other "Bastides" worth visiting and Chateaus within half to an hour away. Highlight was out afternoon canoeing on the Dordogne at Beynac, quite spectacular. A minibus takes you upstream and you paddle back to where you were picked up.
The Gites itself is perfect, spotless, everything is brand new as of summer 2013, very well appointed and you need for nothing. Spacious, English TV, a dishwasher, washing machine, terraced garden with stunning views, a super pool, BBQ area, all perfect for a relaxing time as you watch the Black Kites soaring high above and the wildlife is in abundance.
The visitors guide in the Gites is full of useful tips and places to visit, so be sure to add to it. We hope to return soon!
Thanks Jo and Jim,
Neil and Lorraine xx
