What we liked best about the hotel was its slightly off-beat character. The deco was a bit outdated, but in a charming 1950s-hunting-lodge sort of way. The lady running the place was friendly and entertaining, and even though she seemed to be wearing several 'hats' (receptionist, maitre d', bartender), we never had to wait long for service. Dinner was delicious, breakfast was quite good, and the location is perfect for setting out on a hike in the absolutely breathtaking Cirque de Gavarnie.

Our only complaint would be the price, which is a bit high for a two-star hotel, but then again we did visit in the middle of the high season.

Le Marbore is a quirky establishment run by quirky owners - this is means it will not be to everyone's cup of tea but we really enjoyed it. However Mrs TBD did not spend too long downstairs due to the plethora of stuffed wildlife! The hotel and our room were clean and tidy although our (room 5) bathroom must be described as neat, as an 88Kg 6ft male I could just squeeze on to the toilet which is wedged in between the shower and the wall! How Mrs TBD laughed, until it was her turn!
Our four course dinners were of good quality, very enjoyable but not overly inspiring - with the exception of the "salad" on night 2, the amount and quality of the charcuterie was exceptional. It was close to a main course on its own.
LaMarbore was due to close for winter at the end of the month which possibly accounted for the lack of choice at breakfast, but that would be the only criticism we could levy, nothing else was " end of season" about our stay. Should we be back in the Gavarnie area we would certainly chose to stay in La Marbore again.

The hotel fulfilled our requirements.
The rooms were clean and large enough and the dinner was adequate, although we felt it was expensive for the quality.
Gavarnie is an amazing place in the daytime, but goes very quiet at night. probably because most people are walking.

A hard week walking in the French Pyrenees brings to this small village of Gavarnie. The Hotel Le Marbore is well worth a try, clean comfortable rooms with excellent staff to provide advice and assistance. Meals are filling and there's plenty to choose from. The only down for the hotel, no lift so get a room on the lower levels,

Room Tip: No swimming pool but an excellent spa

The Patron and his wife worked hard to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The food was good, the bedrooms well maintained, clean and comfortable and the bar area had an open fire and a good atmosphere. The decor is quirky but the range of old photos of Gavarnie are very interesting

It is quite an effort to get to Garvenie, but it is well worth it when you do even though the town is a little 'touristy'. This hotel is one of several in the town, and seems to be run buy a man and wife team who went out of their way to make you feel comfortable and to cater for your needs.
One reviewer has called the hotel 'quirky' and perhaps it is, but it does make a refreshing change from the euro-blandness of so many establishments. There is a lot of wood around the place and the bedrooms are reminiscent of an alpine chalet. That being said they are clean, have good facilities, and the kind of views (at least in our room) that are breath-taking.
The restaurant is good, not perhaps 'haute cuisine', but the food is freshly prepared by Monsieur and the portions, as befits the strenuous nature of the activities around Garvenie, are generous - there is a English translation of the menu.
Garvenie is perhaps the place you would want to go to for several days and I would say that this hotel would form an ideal base for a holiday spent exploring the area and indulging in the many activities on hand.
To crown it all both Monsieur and Madame insisted on shaking us warmly by the hand when we left and we departed feeling as if our patronage had been valued.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that has a balcony with views of the surrounding mountains

Pleasant and helpful staff, excellent meals, fair sized rooms and a good location make for a very pleasant stay. The decor downstairs is somewhat quirky - stuffed fox heads wearing sunglasses etc but if you can take that it is an excellent place to stay and Madame is always helpful and pleasant.

Room Tip: Ours at the back was fine unless you opened the window when the sound of the steep and fast flowing...
