“Amazing hotel and restaurant”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

We will certainly be returning....

You do need a car to get here, but the location is perfect if you are visiting any of the Normandy D-Day beaches and other attractions.
The hotel is situated over 2 sites, the main hotel and restaurant, then ' Le Manoir de Mathan' (the posh rooms/suites) about 600 metres around the corner.
On arrival we couldn't believe how beautiful the place was. On check in the receptionist spoke perfect English to us, and let us know that we had been given a complimentary upgrade. The room (suite) was amazing, clean, airy, well decorated and probably bigger than the house we currently live in !!
We bought our dog with us and there was no extra charge for having her in the room, and there was also plenty of places around the hotel to walk her.

We dined in the restaurant that night, and the food was amazing and well priced for the quality and quanity.

It is maybe the "only show in town," so there is little choice if you decide to stop in Crepon. Why you would do that is an open question, as the town has little to offer.

That being said, this hotel deserves at least one more star than its official rating of three. The food is excellent, although probably pricey. We stayed three days on a half-board plan that was pre-paid as part of an Odysseys Unlimited tour. Thus, I can not comment on value for money. Every room is different, so ask to see yours before making a commitment.

The only negatives involve the reception office: limited English language and slow response to special requets.

Yet another fantastic long weekend at the Ferme just south of the D-Day beaches and nearby historic Caen.
Wonderful rooms, outstanding food and calm tranquil atmosphere.
So much to do all around in Normandy.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main Ferme not in the Manoir annexe site

If you are exploring the Normandy countryside, perhaps visiting the D-Day beaches for the 70th anniversary, THIS is the place to stay. The hotel is well-situated for daily excursions into the Norman countryside. The rooms are quite comfortable and full of charm, but not huge. You will want to book half-board as the food and service in the restaurant are phenomenal. I would love to return soon. I highly recommend this hotel. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Each room is lovely.

Absolutely exceeded all expectations even after a most favorable review of their website and positive visitor ratings. What a delight to arrive and see this wonderful retreat after a lengthy flight from western Canada and the 2-3 hour drive from CDG Paris. We arrived tired and slightly ahead of check-in while our room was still being prepared following check-out of the previous clientele. The reception staff were most kind in accommodating that nonetheless, kindly permitting us to stow our luggage in the room and arranging for us to enjoy some refreshments in the courtyard lounge tables. The location is central to D-Day sites, a short drive from Bayeux and has the wonderful attribute of a quiet, country-side place to rest and re-charge. We booked with the half-board arrangement and received excellent value in the more than ample diversity and quality of breakfast fare, as well as a high calibre culinary experience at each evening dinner in the on-site dining rooms. The early evening timing of dinner hours is perfect if you are out exploring the Normandy coastline and pristine villages during the daytime. Rooms are very well appointed, very comfortable and uniquely furnished in a beautiful heritage structure setting. Our father-son pilgrimage to explore the culture and landscape context within which part of Canada's story of sacrifice unfolded some 70 and 100 years ago in France, was made all the more memorable by our short stay here. We would absolutely stay again !

We've made this our base for enjoying Normandy and were happy to be able to visit this year with our son's family. Their chambres are charming & tastefully decorated, and each seems to be unique -- beds are very comfortable, and bathrooms are modern & spotless. We were able to get a triple and quadruple for the 7 of us. Our grandkids particularly liked the "Hobbit room" in the tower. Office staff are friendly & helpful. The hotel seems to be popular with tour groups, so service in the restaurant can be slow between courses at times, but the food is excellent and they offer some nice, reasonably-priced wines and aperitifs. Unlike some restaurants, their child's menu offered good French choices rather than hot dogs and mac & cheese. We also enjoyed their ping pong table, outdoor chess set & tennis court (the hotel kindly furnished racquets--and balls!). They also put out a nice selection of offerings at breakfast, so demi-pension is definitely a good choice. We were delighted with our stay and will continue to return.

Room Tip: Room 32 is a quadruple with twin beds in the "Hobbit room" up a spiral staircase from the...

This was our third stay at La Ferme de la Ranconniere, and it has lost none of its luster in the past ten years. This is the coolest place to stay on the Normandy Coast, just six miles or so off Gold Beach and a short drive to Arromanches. Le Close Garden is a relatively new property, abaout a 300 meter walk from the main building and dining rooms. If you like staying in a quiet, 16th C. stone farm house, with parking right in front, then this is the place for you. We stayed in a suite in Le Close Garden, with a separately-keyed sitting room downstairs and the bedroom up a set of spiral steps. There is no elevator, and you have a short, but pleasant walk to reception and meals. The bed was quite comfortable. The large classical room was dominated by a huge stone fireplace. There is no laundry service. The usual French breakfast is available, with fruit, cereal, rolls, jams, yoghurt, etc., and you can order eggs for about 4E extra. Dinner was first class, with an extensive and delicious wine list. After three stays at La Ferme over the past decade, we are true devotees of its charms, and heartily recommend it for a relaxing and beautiful stay on the Normandy Coast.

Room Tip: La Ferme de la Ranconniere maintains three properties: the main building, Le Close Garden, and the M...
