“The best Sandre in France”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

In a tiny little town on the banks of the river Loire is an outstanding restaurant. It stands on the square and seats about 30 people. Don't speak a lot of English but Didiers cooking is outstanding. Its relaxed, does a fixed price menu ,but the signature dish, for me , is the Sandre with tuffles. Its frankly one of the courses I'd have anywhere because its just perfect. All the cooking is wonderful and with excellant deserts and a cheese board to die for its a perfect place to start, end your holiday, after it anything else seems ordinary. Great selection of wines from the area and elsewhere and its a hotel so you can stop if you want.

“Reasonably priced meal in traditional setting”
Reviewed 16 August 2013 via mobile

En route to Provence we stopped for a midday break and this seemed to be the only place open. We had the cheapest menu at €15 and had a good quality meal, beautifully presented in a very traditional setting. The restaurant is well appointed with a lot of attention to detail. A traditional cheese trolley with good selection of local fare and tender meat for the main course with good dauphinois accompaniment. It the sort of place that you feel a bit underdressed in travelling shorts! An oasis of calm on a hot day.

“Traditional French hotel-restaurant offering excellent quality”
Reviewed 3 June 2013

We had an excellent meal here in a party of 4 while on a cycling holiday in the area. A large party of locals arrived just after us and went into a private room - would the service suffer? No, it didn't - we had all the food, wine, and water we needed and the food quality and presentation were excellent. The menu had very limited choice, but everything was very very well done and the traditional cheese trolley was stocked way beyond what we could sample. For me it was the best meal of our week-long stay in the area.

“Great find in lovely village.”
Reviewed 12 November 2012 via mobile

We stayed here in November for one night as walk ins and were very pleased with the location, comfort, restaurant and attentiveness of the staff. Free parking in the square Place de l'Église outside. We dined in the restaurant and thr food and service were superb. The carafe of water arrived promptly and our wine glasses were kept charged. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended

“Busy - local - talented chef at work”
Reviewed 22 August 2012 via mobile

We remained thirsty throughout the meal, as the carafe d'eau we asked for never arrived, and the (delicious, well-priced) bottle of Ladubay Sapphire Brut 2010 was put at the far end of the table, in between two of our children and out of our reach, so there were some long dry interludes between finishing one glass of wine and waiting to have another poured for us. I'm beginning to think that even though we always order a soft drink for the kids and wine for ourselves, some restaurants in France like to 'punish' us for asking for tap water - by never bringing it. But thirst aside, this was a splendid meal from the heady intense tomato gazpacho with parmesan cream & saucisson, through the extremely pleasing traditional starters - lots of attention to detail and flourishes here - and the mains of pike / veau with rognons in creamy sauce. Plenty of use of interesting herbs which, if they hadn't been so busy, I would have liked to have asked about to find out more. Desserts were fine - I had a perfectly good sabayon - and the cheeses were generous, varied, tasty. What made the experience particularly positive for us was the children's food - it's hard going in our experience to find a restaurant that delivers for children as well as parents but here, they simply offered a choice of fish or meat and then they gave the children a lovely plate of saucisson & salad to start, followed by a just-right plate of rare steak & gratin dauphinois (with smily faces made of salad) and topped off with a magnificent bowl of ice cream. Not for this restaurant the cursory "deux boules" of boring ice cream: the reward for clearing their plates came with pieces of strawberry & grape, plenty of chantilly cream, multicoloured sprinkles and a cocktail umbrella which the kids delightedly wore in their hair to the amusement of fellow diners. Speaking of whom, most diners appeared to be local and I'm not surprised. A very decent honest restaurant providing food to make you happy at prices that are extremely fair.
