“Update on Jarnac's most popular restaurant in the main square (Place du Chateau)”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

After a brief closure (10 days) to make some modest adaptations to the layout of the restaurant it has re-opened.

The changes have led to a slightly more spacious feeling.

Really one goes there for the food, which is very good value for money. At lunchtime, apart from the main menus, there is a 2 course (12€) or 3 course (15€) lunch; service of these is very speedy. The other menus (19€, 26€ and 35 €) are more leisurely and more appropriate for those wishing to dine out in the evening. The service (by the owner - the father of Maxim) and one young assistant is efficient and friendly.

Parking is easy and the main square is a good starting point for a post-prandial stroll trhough the town or along the banks of the Charente. Well worth a detour.

“Good food, but .......................”
Reviewed 10 November 2012

The food was good, but unexceptional by comparison with other restaurants we had visited in the region. Service had been better elsewhere and the place lacks any real character. Unimpressed by the seating arrangements and cluttered table, which seemed small. They could do better, but we'd consider going back.

“Had a lot of fun!”
Reviewed 15 September 2012

We met our boat in Jarnac and were looking for a restaurant for dinner before we left and stumbled upon this restaurant. None of us could speak French and the restaurant staff could not speak English.

After a lot of of dramatic scenes trying to communicate (that included animal noices!) that would make any Broadway actor proud we managed to place our order. We had so much fun with this and it was probably the best possible start to our holiday.

The restaurant is casual with tables inside and outside. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Would recommend the restaurant for anyone visiting Jarnac.

“Good food reasonable prices”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

Good food and venue in central position short walk from the Charente and we found parking easy. Popularity meant waiter struggles to give a good service.

“An enthusiastic cook - but no chef.”
Reviewed 1 January 2012

As a Jarnac resident I really looked forward to my lunch. The "shop front" promised much but I felt the decor didn't really work well to create an atmosphere. My wife and I opted for a 16.50 menu. The food was good amateur cooking. Absolutely nothing wrong with it but no great flair. The wine list was small and over priced.
