We (family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children aged 7 and 9 years)) had an overnight stay in the castle in Bollene This one day we felt us like a god in France and found it really very unfortunate that we had booked for only one night.

Nicely decorated rooms (with an eye for details), a delicious dinner, a cozy regional anise drink drunk with the owners, the children could play great in the garden with characteristic trees.

We have all come to rest on the balcony, with the natural sounds of cicadas, crickets and birds.

Basically in one word AMAZING, we look back with pleasure on this end of our holiday.

Carole, thank you very much for this wonderful experience and wish every success in the future

The main Chateau is being developed into private apartements. We booked in, being led to believe, by the website, that the Chateau was still open, to find only one wing was now being used as a gite. The place is quite nice but nowhere near as awesome as the old Chateau hotel. The hostess presented us with a nice meal in a kitchen but she and her husband were present all the time. The bedroom we chose faced the main road, not the garden, and so was noisy. And we hear kitcgen noises and conversations a lot. We will not return. Disappointed but glad to have seen the place before it is inaccessible to the public.

Room Tip: They don't exist now.

After leaving the awful chain motel we had booked in Bollene for our party of six adults and a four year old child, we were overjoyed to find this wonderful old hotel in the heart of Bollene. Where the motel offered tiny rooms next to a barbed wire fence and a car wash, Le Chateau de Rocher gave us spacious rooms reminiscent of the 19th century and beautiful gardens where we ate dinner and breakfast with a strolling peacock (who loves pain au chocolate).
The proprietress could not have been kinder or more accommodating and our four year old granddaughter was completely enchanted. This was quite the serendipitous find and we enjoyed their hospitality for two nights while we attended a family wedding a few miles away.
Stay here if you want a unique experience - not if you want a flat screen TV or high tech accommodations. This hotel (with excellent food, by the way) could only exist in France.

Worn splendour - beautiful grounds, massive rooms, shabby chic. Lovely food. Wine is very expensive. Demi - pensione - meal, breakfast, room - available - good value but we were called 'demi-pensioners' in the restaurant in front of other diners when we'd been given the à la carte menu which was then taken from us... Added to the fun, in a way - a really relaxing place to stay after a long haul down through France. Lovely to eat out in the garden for lunch or evening meal. Dining rooms are large and quaint. Bollene itself is not very tasty - could be a pretty place but is run down (the bars are not places to be visited by a woman, even with her partner, unless she doesn't mind being stared at and doesn't easily feel uncomfortable - but this can be typical of any small town bar in S France with lots of N African men around at a loose end). One of my favourite hotels/restaurants in France.

Room Tip: rooms at front have balcony overlooking garden

An excellent hotel of charm in a somewhat charmless town, but within easy driving distance of the beautiful Gorges de l'Ardèche. Beautiful grounds and park, parrots, animals on grounds. Decent restaurant. Staff somewhat eccentric but very pleasant. Comfortable rooms but poor TV reception.
