We rolled into town on a whim and got lucky when we stopped at the Harbor Grand! We loved the location and enjoyed a lovely walk to the beach, strolled through town to the local ice cream stand and made it back to the hotel just in time to watch an impressive thunderstorm from the safety of our room.

The front desk folks were very friendly and we love the thoughtful amenities this hotel offers! Among other things, they offer a wide variety of free DVD's and pints of Ben & Jerry's at the front desk! We especially appreciated the complimentary breakfast delivered to our room in the morning.

The room was ample and nice.

I've stayed at several hotels and inns along Michigan's West coast and the Harbor Grand has probably been the best. The reason for this is the amenities they offer, their great customer service, and location, location, location!

No other hotel in New Buffalo offers an unobstructed view of the Lake the way the Harbor Grand does. Having read some negative reviews of this establishment regarding a large tree blocking the view of the Lake, my wife and I requested a top floor room on the northwest corner of the building. We had a great view from that room. If you're concerned about the view, ask for a top floor room with a view ahead of time. The staff was more than willing to accommodate us.

We also loved how close the hotel is to the beach. It's a quick walk across the bridge to the sand. They offer free beach towels and chairs for your use if you forget yours. The towels and chairs are nothing fancy, but it beats having to bring my own. Another nice touch is their free DVD library. They have a decent selection for all ages, including families, or you can always bring your own to watch if you want to count on having a sure favorite while there. We especially liked the 24 hour Ben and Jerry's service. While not free ($7.00/quart), we made use of it and their selection was pretty good.

The room itself was fantastic! We stayed in a Harbor View King and were very pleased with the space and features. I've stayed in larger rooms in New Buffalo, but we didn't spend much time in the room, so it was enough for us. The fireplace was nice, but being summer, we didn't really use it. Our window had a sliding glass door with a screen but no balcony, just a metal guard rail extending about 10 inches from the door. Having such a large window/door was nice as we left it open all night to enjoy the breeze off the Lake. For a hotel, the bathroom was HUGE! Our bathroom had a large whirlpool tub AND a stand-up shower. Both were large and spacious. The sink area was generous, but no in-room coffee maker. There was a mini fridge, DVD player, and flat screen TV with cable (the cable was out our entire stay due to a storm the night before we arrived).

We ordered the free delivered-to-your-room breakfast and found it pretty decent. It was enough to carry us through to lunch.

The staff was extremely polite, friendly, and helpful. They really worked to make our stay enjoyable. The decor is a little dated. They've aimed for a "Frank Lloyd Wright" theme and kind of hit it, so it's not what I'd call trendy, if that's what you're into.

Overall, this hotel was a great choice and we hope to stay there again.

Room Tip: If you want to see the Lake, when making reservations, be sure to ask for a room on the top floor aw...

The extras were included and made our stay special. Complimentary breakfast served in the morning was a hit with the kids. Loved the free DVDs available and beach chairs and towels! Would recommend for couples or families.

My wife and I stayed here for a quick weekend "anniversary" get away. When we attempted to book online, their system said that there were no rooms available for the nights of our stay. So taking that as a good sign...I gave them a call. It turned out that they had a "standard" room available.

Check-in was easy and the staff was very friendly. With never staying with them before, they were sure to cover the important breakfast process.

Breakfast will be a bit different than you are used to. Every evening you fill out your menu for the next morning. With the exception of coffee and tea, it is a cold breakfast comprised of things such as fruit, bagels, muffins, cereal, and so on. Honestly, at first, we were wondering if that would be enough. However, the helpings were good and neither of left the breakfast table hungry. My only suggestion would to possibly have some rotating selections, as with any extended stay, it would easily become repetitive.

As for our room, I was honestly slightly disappointed upon the first view. I did not see any pictures of what turned out to be the standard (non-suite) room. The room was just that, a standard hotel room. There was a bed, a small breakfast table, old 27" TV (tube), and a standard bathroom. There wasn't really anywhere to sit and relax other than the bed. In the end, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, but a bit of updating of the standard room wouldn't hurt. In contrast to the other rooms (that I peeked in on during cleanings), the standard is surely not as good of a value.

As for the location...it was great. One note, when you arrive, turn off the main road at the train tracks. Likely, your GPS might take you to the back service drive of the hotel and you'll have to turn around. Speaking of the tracks, the only traffic we ever saw on it was the Amtrak train, a few times a day. Our room was on the front of the hotel facing the tracks, and it never once really bothered us or woke us up. It's stops were quick and infrequent.

The hotel is situated right on the marina. Great views from the back yard chairs of sunsets, and a fully relaxing view. Within in walking distance you have such places as the Stray Dog and Brewster's Italian Cafe which we fully enjoyed. You can easily walk to the beach as well, but it was a bit chilly at the time for us.

Overall...we'd be happy to stay there again. We took advantage of their free DVD rentals and in-house Ben And Jerry's ice cream from the front desk. The only thing we would do, would be specify a suite room.

Room Tip: Try to get a suite on the marina side to take full advantage of the location.

Stayed here with two friends for a girls get-away weekend and really enjoyed it. We had a package deal which included a suite with sofa bed, a cheese/wine platter upon arrival and breakfast delivered the next morning, The property was well maintained, comfortable, conveniently located near the lake and shopping. We particuliarly enjoyed sitting by the Firepit (making & eating s'mores) after shopping and dinner. Look forward to staying here again.

This hotel is absolutely delightful! My boyfriend and I stayed for a few days during the week for a romantic getaway :)
The front desk was so nice and informative! We reserved the harbor view king room which came with a jacuzzi tub and fireplace ❤️
Included in the price of the room was a breakfast in a basket delivered to your room at the time you choose, such a nice detail .
The hotel is walking distance to the beach and the Stray dog cafe which has a awesome roof top bar!!!!
The restaurant downstairs was a perfect ending to our stay...fresh Italian food, yummy wine and beautiful harbor views :)

We stayed for an extended weekend, Saturday through Tuesday. Upon checking in, we were greeted by Terry. He was so friendly and welcoming that we knew we had found a gem! The entire length of our stay was fantastic from the breakfast in bed, to the cleanliness of the room, and the attention to detail from the staff! We had a small problem with our air on the last night and they moved us to a new room immediately. We will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and will be visiting again very soon!
