“A Relaxing Escape”
Reviewed 17 July 2012

We spent two nights at the Lake Country Inn as a little mid-week escape. The inn is a beautiful property in a great location for exploring New Buffalo and the surrounding area. It is only one block off the main street and has its own parking lot which made it very convenient for walking to the nearby restaurants and shopping. There's a lovely patio and a "gathering room" with comfy seating and a fireplace. We stayed in "porch rooms" both nights and really enjoyed sitting out there with a glass of wine, reading and watching the world go by. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with great bedding and classy decor. Everyone at the inn was friendly and helpful, especially Charlotte who checked us in and explained all the inn's amenities to us. We hope to return soon! (My only suggestion would be to put clocks in the rooms - I forgot to bring my watch with me and would have appreciated being able to see the time.)

Thank you for your review. July is peak porch time at our property, and we are very glad you were able to enjoy some time on one this summer. Appreciate the mention of the staff also as they do work really hard. We will be getting some clocks for the rooms-- hope we can find some that will make this great summer go by as slow as possible.

Got an invitation for a family wedding in the area and began a search for the best place to stay. This turned out to be a great choice. We stayed for two nights in the red room, which was REALLY red, but impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. The bed was very comfortable, the view out of the windows was pleasant and the room was very private with a separate entrance. Since we came and went a lot, it was ideal. The gathering room (separate porch-like room about the size of a garage) was a nice touch and perfect for chatting with family members who stopped by. The inn is centrally located but off the busy main street. There are interesting shops and restaurants within walking distance. We walked to the beach several times. We rarely needed to use the car, so appreciated the private parking lot. This inn shows evidence of great planning and design and is very well-run. Thank you for a very pleasant stay. It felt like we were on a little honeymoon, too. If we lived closer, we’d be back.

Room Tip: The Red Room has a private entrance, if you are planning to come and go a lot.

We really appreciate your review and thanks. So glad your stay with us was relaxing and fun. All of the rooms are very colorful-- especially the red room. Not having to use your car really helps guests relax at our central New Buffalo location---- short walk to some of the best sunsets on the planet.

I stayed at the inn for two nights before heading down to gradute school at Notre Dame, just to catch my breath. You know ou picked a good place to go when you can see the lake from the only stoplight in town. The inn is beautiful, the private parking great, the Green Room was very comfy, and the porch type room out back was nice to relax in. The restaurants in town were tasty and the walk to the beach is but a few minues from the Inn. I hope to be able to stay again next summer. I am telling everyone I know about what this charming place to stay.

Thank you for the review and mentioning your Notre Dame connection. As we are about 40 minutes for campus, you can enjoy " a place at the lake " and still access the campus fairly easily. Also, our off season rates could make this a good place to study or take a break from class. Hope you can come again soon.

If you go to New Buffalo for a visit this is the place to stay. Mark and Hope and the rest of the staff are excellent hosts. We booked 2 rooms and both were just great. One of them was the Saffron and the other was the Green. The Saffron had a balcony that overlooked the street and the restaurant across the street which was rated very highly (we didn't get the chance to eat there but will next time). Try to get the balcony rooms as they are just great for relaxing outdoors. Only one problem and that was the NBC Comcast feed which had no sound (US Open was on) which truth be told was no big deal because let's face it if you are there there is a lot more to be enjoyed than television. My wife was so impressed she wanted to know where the bedspread came from (like I care, but she did). We think we want to get the whole crew together to have a real family outing. It is a wonderful place and if you are going make sure to book well in advance. Thanks, Mark, Hope and staff. It was great.

You are welcome! We all enjoyed having you stay with us.

The balconies off the Tower and Saffron rooms are really popular. Along with our porches, the balconies give you a great place to sit with a glass of wine and watch a hot, summer night drift by.

Hope to see your smiling faces again soon.

My wife and I were celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. I wanted to surprise her with a weekend get-a-way to New Buffalo and found the Lake Country Inn. After booking a room online, I received a message from Mark & Hope welcoming us to their Inn. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Hope who explained all the details of the hotel. Once we got to our room we were amazed at how clean our room was along with the entire place. The bed was comfortable and the sitting chair in our room we wanted to take home. The breakfast they offered was just right and the array of supplies they have for their guests to use during our stay was wonderful. We forgot wine glasses and they had them. We ate at the restaurant across the street, Brewsters, was a place with good atmosphere, good staff and great food. Next time we go to New Buffalo, we will be staying at the Lake Country Inn.

Room Tip: If you stay here, go for a room with a balcony. We will next time.

So happy that we were able to help you have a wonderful anniversary.

Brewsters is a great place to eat and many of our guests go there. Also, their pagers reach our property so you can relax on a porch or balcony while waiting to be called for an open table.

Hope to see you again soon, and thanks for the review.

My friend and I stayed here over the weekend and it honestly pained me to turn in my key at the end of our stay. We stayed in the orange room, which has it's own private veranda. The room itself was modern and clean. Hope and Joyce did a great job of explaining all of the room provisions (i.e. Netflix tv, how to properly lock and unlock sliding door, etc.). Hope made sure we knew how to reach her after hours, should anything need her attention.

I loved the Four Seasons room located in the back of the house. It had a very comfortable couch in front of a fireplace. It was great to have access to this room, as our actual room was more for just sleeping. The bathroom was clean and the linens were comfy. The only thing that would have made our stay better, is if there were blankets to use. When we sat and had coffee on the veranda in the morning, it was a bit chilly and that's when we started to search for a blanket.

Other than that, we felt right at home. I cannot wait to come back ;)

Room Tip: If you stay on the first floor, you're more apt to hear footsteps above.

We really appreciate your review and thanks.

Noted your suggestion about outside blankets. Probably won't need them this weekend as it looks like we will be back in the 90's. Lake Michigan water temps will be comfortable for swimming early this year.

Hope we can give you another room key soon.

We booked a two night stay at the Lake Country Inn along with two other couples over Memorial weekend. We arrived early, and they allowed us to check in since the room was available. They have a parking lot on site, which is very convenient. The layout is great, we had the orchid room, which was quite spacious and spotlessley clean, as was the rest of the Inn. The rooms are exactly as pictured on the site, with nice decor uncluttered by unnecessary objects. The bed was very comfortable and the crisp white linens were of excellent quality. I was a bit surprised by the tiny size of the flatscreen TV (monitor?) in the room, since it is so far from the bed due to the long rectangular shape of the room, but we were not there to watch TV, so it was not a problem. We also had free wireless internet access. The bathroom was spacious, we always had hot water, the towels were bright white and soft, and the included H2O bath amenities smelled great. The inn is located within convenient walking distance to everything you need - restaurants, shopping, the Lake, etc. The construction is solid, you hear no sounds from people walking in the hallway or up the stairs, although you can hear some live music in the evenings due to the close proximity to some local establishments. This did not bother us at all. There is a great covered porch with adirondak chairs in the back of the inn that the 6 of us used a few times to hang out and enjoy our breakfast in the mornings and some wine in the evening. We even ordered excellent take out food from the Italian Restaurtant across the street (Brewsters Italian Cafe), and brought it back to the deck to eat. There is also a separate building with TV, table, couches that can be used to gather families together, and another patio with a table for eating outside. We did not even get to use this room because the deck was so nice. The continental breakfast was yummy - delicious fresh muffins from a local bakery plus hand fruit, Starbucks coffee and juices. The fridge is stocked with water and juice, and you can put your own items in there as well. We had lunch at the Stray Dog Cafe and would recommend that as well. Great selection of draft beers and a great back room with huge screened windows, and a rooftop deck. The LC Inn owners live nearby, and Mark stopped by on his bike and greeted us a couple of times during our stay. Each room is temperature controlled, and ours was fine. It was a heatwave weekend, and our friends in another room had trouble with their AC and spent their second night sweating it out with the system blowing hot air. Although they did not call the owner during the night to report it, they mentioned their frustration and discomfort the next day, and he graciously apologized for their troubles, and offered to discount that evening's stay. It was handled professionally. If we ever have the occasion to be in this area in the future, we would stay here again without a doubt!

Room Tip: Some rooms have a private porch which is nice, but all are equally great with vibrant paint colors.

Thanks so much for your review. I am sure it will help future guests know what to expect from our property prior to a visit.

We tracked down a rouge switch in the lower level as the cause of the AC issue. Also, while it looks older, the building was built new in 2005 and that is why it has such a solid feel.

Enjoyed having your group--- it was fun.
