“A relaxing way to experience Leelanau”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

We live in Kalamazoo and come to Leelanau for a few days several times a year. Dave and Linda's place in Omena is always our first choice for a place to stay. The main house has the feel of a farm house of 100 years ago--historic but comfortable. The location and view are spectacular. From an upstairs room in the Wheeler House, you can sit on the upstairs porch and watch the sun set over Grand Traverse Bay. Omena is a quaint little town (if you can call it a town), and it's handy to the places we want to visit--Sutton's Bay, Fisher's Family Tavern, Knot Just a Bar and Larry Mawby's tasting room and deck.

The Sunset Lodge rates are much less than you'd pay at other Leelanau B&Bs, but that's not the only reason we come here again and again. The rooms are clean and comfortable; Dave and Linda are gracious hosts; and the breakfasts are wonderful.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house are least expensive but we enjoyed the suite in a house on the other side of...

We love this place. This is one of those places that I almost hate to review because I'm afraid it will be booked when we want it. (How selfish of me!) This B&B consists of 4 big farm houses in a beautiful and serene setting with lots of land and a view of the bay. We love the large, super clean rooms, the kitchenettes, the big windows, the fireplaces, the quiet country setting (though just down the hill is the tiny town of Omena and the bay), the large porches, the helpful hosts and the lovely gourmet breakfasts, the many good restaurants nearby, the free wifi, and the price! We had a wonderful time biking the Leelanlau Trail from Suttons Bay to Traverse City. There is also a restaurant just a short walk from the Lodge called Knot Just A Bar with great outdoor seating on the bay, and the best carrot cake (and biggest slice) that you'll ever have. We stayed at Sunset Lodge twice this year and plan to return whenever we can. It's the perfect getaway and a very special place! Please don't tell anyone. ;)

My friend and I spent two days at the Lodge in July. The perfect weather helped, but the lodge and the entire property were wonderful. Our suite was spacious, clean and well appointed. The entire property was beautifully renovated. The price is by far one of the best for the money in northern Michigan. Napa Valley has nothing on us!

A weekend up north for a wedding in an apple orchard took us to ... Sunset Lodge. It was a beautiful Victorian home with a wrap-around porch on which one could literally sit all day looking at Traverse Bay or read a book. Serenity and peace were part of the package. The rooms were quaint and clean. Our hosts were helpful and prepared amazing breakfasts (and they were willing to share the recipes)! All in all, it was a relaxing time. The peninsula has plenty to offer from wine-tasting to shopping in the small towns. Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes are near-by for adventure and everyone is friendly.

Great location on the Leelanau Peninsula, if you enjoy lovely scenery, biking, hiking, restaurants, winerys...nothing very far away. View of the bay. Privacy. Ample sized suites with amenities. Charming hosts. Gourmet breakfast delivered to the suite. Imaculate!

Room Tip: Stayed in Bayview suite. Friends stayed in another of the 3 buildings and they had similar excellent...

We stayed here during a somewhat spontaneous getaway -- we were happy to find a B&B on fairly short notice -- and were very pleased. We stayed in the main house, which also houses the dining room and a lovely Victorian-style sitting room/music room; had a very comfortable room. Breakfast was delicious as well. The B&B is on a hill which overlooks Omena Bay, and it's also close to the local general store, post office, restaurant (Knot Just a Bar) and one of the many area wineries (Leelanau Cellars). There's also a game room, in a separate building, with a fireplace and kitchenette; we had an enjoyable evening playing board games and drinking some of the local wine next to a crackling fire.

If we didn't travel so often with our pets, we'd visit here much more often! It's a great value, in a beautiful location, and provides a good "base camp" for visitors wanting to explore the Leelanau. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed talking with them.

Room Tip: We enjoyed staying in the main building (Wheeler House), but larger groups might want to reserve roo...
