We hate campgrounds where campers are on top of each other. Thankfully, the campgrounds @ Petosky are nicely spaced, clean and all sites have easy access to the beach. We were located near the restrooms and, thankfully, stayed on a weekend where there weren't ill behaved and loosely supervised screaming children. Still, if you pick the right place (look @ the online map to choose your best spot) you can mostly avoid the "romper room" atmosphere mentioned by a previous reviewer. The beach is a perfect place for rock hunting and an isolated nap.

If you long for the sound of shrieking children, this is perfect. If you want a quiet spot to be one with nature, stay far, far away. The beach is lovely, the facilities are clean. However, the "quiet time is all the time" rule is merely a suggestion. The man next to us found this out when he yelled, "QUIET!" at 10:30 pm and a boisterous young camper screamed back, "Be QUIET!" at the top of his lungs. The din reached a fever pitch at about this time, and the only way to fall asleep was to swallow a handful of Ambien. The bike crew on training wheels, albeit adorable, commenced their speed rounds at 7:30 am, as their parents got together for laughter and stories around the fire at 8. That's 8 AM. Bottom line: bring earplugs and Ambien.

Very beautiful, deep beach that is very clean! We visited for the day and loved it! The beach is large enough that you aren't elbow to elbow with people and the restrooms are clean.

This place was so beautiful! My favorite campground we've ever stayed at! Dunes are NOT like Silver Lake so don't come here if that's what you are looking for. But there is a neat dunes area, so fun for the younger and older kids to explore. Beautiful water, great beach, super clean restrooms & showers(cleaned multiple times daily) and the campground-large large private sites, lots of shade, small campground....just perfect!
