Congratulations to the owners of the Terrace Inn for the incredible job they've done in restoring such an historic site. We stayed two nights and greatly appreciated the beauty of the decor, comfort and cleanliness of the room, blissful quiet, good food, and the friendliness of the staff. We first visited the Inn in the mid-1990s and it was not memorable. At that time, it was in, shall we say, sorry shape. But now, it is a gem. The dining room, in particular, is elegant! One must keep in mind, however, that this is an historic site. Standard amenities that some travelers come to expect may be less than expected at this Inn. Our bathroom had no hooks, not one, on which to hang either a towel or a clean set of clothes. I'm glad we had a canopy bed. It served as a nice drying rack for our towels. As in some older establishments, there is little or no shelf space in the bathroom for one's toiletries. The small shelf above the sink had decorative, and breakable, knick-knacks on it. I put them on the floor under the sink so we could use the shelf for toothbrushes. Yes, I felt guilty, but just wanted a little space for our "stuff." Two more items: There is a transom above the door of the room we stayed in. Unfortunately, the hall light is right in front of the transom, which shone in my eyes during the night. That's easily solved by putting the pillow over one's head, but a little inconvenient. The Inn does advertise Wi-Fi, however, our room was a dead zone. It did not work even after the staff rebooted the system. Frankly, I didn't care much. In such peaceful surroundings, why be wired? Those are the reasons for four stars instead of five. None of them diminished the joy of our stay. We can't thank the owners and staff enough for so lovingly taking care of an important piece of history.

We had an enjoyable two night stay at Terrace Inn. At check in, the owner Mo was there and was helpful. Later, the other owner (can't recall her name--sorry!) was helpful finding a good, local pizza place (Mighty Fine Pizza, and it was!).
The atmosphere of this Victorian-era inn was eclectic; the lobby and dining room were what I imagine Victorian era inns would have been like. The broad hallways of the upper levels were lined with books, book cases, nick-knacks, and a variety of framed prints. The floors and stairs were creaky (just like my grandparents' Victorian era house), and we could hear everyone using the stairs (our room was right next to the stairwell--rooms farther away might not hear the steps).
We stayed in the Stargazer Suite; we liked the stars painted on the ceiling and left the blacklight on all night, both nights to view the stars. The bed was comfortable, the hot tub was clean, the wicker chairs were not that comfortable (one arm was broken); and the room had a small fridge, sink, and micro wave oven. The bathroom was large and clean; the dual-head shower also has four body sprays.
The room's decor was eclectic (other reviewers have called it shabby-chic, the owners call it restored Victorian), but as a guy, it didn't bother me too much. The colors matched, though little things like light fixtures, etc were diverse.
The breakfasts were fresh (breads and fruit) both mornings; the granola that the website brags about was very good! While I was disappointed that the Sat. morning breakfast didn't include the egg casserole, they did have a tasty baked oatmeal instead. It actually tasted just like our family's own favorite baked oatmeal recipe, so I wasn't too sad.
All in all it was a nice stay; we likely would try other inns or B&Bs in Petoskey just to compare. The room was about $150/night off-season, which was a little on the high side for the experience.
There did seem to be a misunderstanding between the owners, their webhost, and their reservations processor; we thought we were purchasing the nights plus a couples massage; this information didn't come to the staff -- just a generic "special request" line on their copy of our reservation. Also, the couples massage was not available for two people at a time, but two people one after the other. We finally opted out of it.

Room Tip: If you have special request or select a package option, be sure to contact the inn ahead of time to...

Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review of the Inn. Of course, I would be happy to listen to your comments during your stay, as sometimes I can change something to make your stay more comfortable (like the broken wicker chair!). I didn't know about that, and it has been removed. I have two more comfortable chairs in the suite now. Constantly, we are doing things to improve from service to comfort to breakfast. Speaking of which, we have have meetings with the breakfast cook to upgrade the offerings and add more protein/meat offerings and creative dishes that look and taste great and are more "elegant". So far, the quiche is the best improvement, we have reviewed and are trying new recipes as well and open to any suggestions from our guests. Glad you enjoyed most of your stay. I do want to change out some fixtures (or move around) so they "match" better..as continuity should balance with diversity (I think)..working on that..what do you think the price should be based on your stay? also, do you think a much better breakfast would make it a better value? please let me know..I appreciate your feedback! it is such a difficult thing to decide (we know the expenses side of things)..Patty

The Terrace Inn was recommended by my cousin who is a travel agent so we booked two nights in August and loved it. We weren't satisfied with the layout of our assigned room so the friendly desk clerk allowed us to view other available rooms (doors to vacant rooms are left open) and pick whatever we liked. Rooms are furnished with antiques but the bathrooms are modern with beautiful tile work. Surrounded by Victorian and Queen Anne style historic homes, large parks, and huge, leafy oak trees, the setting is the ultimate in charming relaxation. Dinner on the porch as the sun set over the bay ranks among our top ten best dining experiences. Food quality is outstanding and the planked white fish is not to be missed. The wine list is varied and very reasonably priced. The buffet breakfast is advertised as continental but a hot entree was included each day along with a good variety of cold. selections. I highly recommend a stay at the Terrace Inn.

We chose this B&B for our annual girls weekend last fall. It also happened to be their ghost hunters weekend. What an amazing experience! We had an amazing room. So comfortable and decorated beautifully. The food is to die for and the owners and staff are so friendly and helpful. They made us feel like family. Also had the opportunity to learn about the history and explore the B&B from the basement all the way up. My teenagers absolutely fell in love with this place and if you know teenagers...that's pretty huge! We have already reserved our rooms for this years ghost hunters weekend and my children and myself are counting the days. Can't wait to see you all again in October!

The Terrace in is a unique Inn with a very friendly staff. The rooms were small, but very nice and the bed comfort was a 10! The breakfast we all felt, left something to be desired. All in all we had a wonderful time there.

We recently stayed one night at Terrace Inn, poor planning on our part as one night is NOT enough for this lovely, quiet place. We were welcomed graciously by the front desk staff and the service was always excellent. We sat on the porch watching a summer rain, reading, rocking in the rocking chairs, and sipping an excellent glass of wine. Our room, a king suite, was just beautiful. As it was a Sunday night the dining room was serving only pizza, but what a pizza they make! It was just excellent.

Room Tip: The king suite on the first floor corner, room 100 is just the best room. 11 foot ceilings.

We were traveling along the northwest coast of Michigan and stayed her on my birthday. WOW! Talk about a wonderful experience! From the moment we pulled up, the inn was like stepping back into time. The room was quaint, comfortable, and charming. We had my birthday dinner on the veranda overlooking beautifully manicured grounds with a distant view of Lake Michigan. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the friendly hospitality unmatched. We will definitely be returning at some point in time. I felt sad to leave this place... If you are traveling near Petoskey, don't miss this place! You won't believe your eyes! (and ears...soft, mellow sounds of yesteryear...) Thanks for a fantastic experience that will never be forgotten!
