The man (I dare wouldn't say Gentleman) who answered the phone was extremely rude. I have previously stayed at the B&B and enjoyed every moment of the stay. Actually looking forward to returning this year, until this phone conversation. I will never stay here again, which is unfortunate because I do feel it is a great place to escape too.

I was apprehensive about this place seeing it only had a 2.5 star rating but it far exceeded my expectations. I got the jacuzzi suite on my floor which was a huge value at only $199. My family got other rooms (queen suite and queen standard rooms) which weren't quite as nice but we were very comfortable with a huge jacuzzi bath, large closet, sitting area, king bed, and kitchenette with coffee pot, microwave, and small fridge.

The place itself was really charming and the terrace was lovely for an evening meal. The location was also really nice - close to the water, a short drive from downtown, and it a very quiet and walkable neighborhood.

The only downside was that there was no elevator and the food options were limited at the restaurant for dinner. Also, the air-conditioning was extremely loud. Regardless, it was still a great place to stay if you want a slower pace and the charm of a 1911 inn at a fantastic value.

Room Tip: Get the jacuzzi suite - it only costs about $30/night more than the next largest room but it is much...

My sister and I spent two nights here in July to just get away. We enjoyed going "back in time" 100 years! Our room, with twin iron beds, was perfect - small by today's standards but very clean, as was the bathroom. We enjoyed our two dinners at the hotel - one on the porch and the other in the dining room, due to the inclement weather. We enjoyed Chicken Hemmingway the first night and split the Planked Whitefish the second. The inn is really located in Bayview - a quaint Victorian community through which we enjoyed walking during the day and at night. For breakfast at the inn, we each received a $10.00 voucher towards breakfast. Breakfast on the porch each morning was very pleasant. All the help at the inn were very friendly and helpful and the service at all meals was excellent. We would definitely return!

Room Tip: In keeping with the times, there is no elevator so if you can't do stairs, make sure to get a ro...

My former college roomate and I met here for a girls weekend. The inn is nestled in a Bayview neighborhood among the many quaint old summer homes. Our rooms were charming and well maintained. I stayed in the Hemingway room and enjoyed the lierary theme but would choose another room next time since the bathroom was a bit cramped. The staff was very attentive. Breakfasts were good, but nothing special. We dined here one evening, and just had soup and salad since we had a large lunch. The salad and cocktails were good, the whitefish chowder was bland. We would both stay here again.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view of the quaint neighborhood. The Hemingway room has interesting decor but seem...

We just returned from our stay at the Terrace Inn. It's loaded with charm and history. Breakfast is included, and it was a full breakfast with bacon and sausage, eggs and french toast, etc. If you stay there you must have dinner or breakfast outside on the terrace. The bay is visible through the trees and it's beautiful. The Inn is situated in a neighborhood in Bay View, which is loaded with beautiful Victorian homes. We stayed in room 102 and it was quite comfortable. Anyone looking for a quaint, peaceful getaway on the water, which will take you back to another era, will love this place.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms have higher ceilings, and I will try to stay in room 100 next time. It's a...

We had a wonderful stay at the Terrace Inn. The rooms were spacious and our room had a jacuzzi tub which we enjoyed. Never tried dinner there, we were in town and ate there instead. We did have breakfast and were not very impressed. The breakfast menu made it seem very fancy, yet it was quite generic and bland.

Our vacation this year was a bit odd. Every year I have plans, itineraries and such, but this year, I had nothing. We knew we wanted to head north in Michigan, we wanted peace and quiet when we wanted it and we wanted entertainment when we felt like it. Well, I popped in a few requests and the Terrace Inn came up. It looked interesting and good reviews. So, we booked. That is right. On Saturday night I booked a week, the busiest week of the summer, starting the very next day. The front desk did some serious work to fit us in. When we showed up, I was expected. Not like at the chains, but like really expected. We got these crazy looking old-fashioned keys that led us to the most charming, clean and comfortable rooms we have ever seen. Our service was excellent all week. If you had a question, about anything, you were first in line. If you were hungry, you were first in line. If you wanted a drink, you were first in line. That staff is unbelievable. And talk about entertaining. We had all our meals on the porch and loved every minute of it. We had a short rain one morning and there we sat, having breakfast on the porch. It was awesome. The grounds are so beautiful and everywhere you look you find history. We met people who book that same week every year and had stories after stories to tell us. When yesterday rolled around and I knew we needed to pack up and head home, I also knew I needed to book my week for 2013. If you love the upper part of MI and the UP, Petoskey is a wonderful spot to travel from each day. If you want the feeling of really being taken care of, head to the Terrace Inn. I look forward to seeing all the folks next year. Thank you so much for everything you did to make our vacation so wonderful.

Room Tip: Always let the desk person know your likes ahead of schedule.
