It helps to know what you are getting into.....this is a very old bldg. and so maintenance is a challenge. Since we stayed there the last time, room AC's have been added. And the furnishings have improved. The style is Victorian so expect flowery wall paper and carpets, lacy curtains, etc. No elevator so you have to schlep luggage up to 2nd or 3rd floor. It is in a lovely neighborhood( old Methodist summer camp) and convenient to Petoskey.
The most disappointing thing was the breakfast: weak coffee, and the strangest tasting bagels and cream cheese, bad sausage, etc.
Staff was pleasant but did not give out much info.

The long 4th of July weekend that my wife, daughter and I spent at the Terrace Inn was fantastic. This was our third summer visiting the Terrace Inn and we will be back again next year.

The owners and inn keepers Moe and Patty are fantastic and they have an excellent staff all of whom aim to please! I don’t think the Terrace Inn gets too many little visitors, but their staff was more than accommodating when I told them we would be bringing our 16 month old daughter. Their staff said they would have a pack-and-play in our room for us which was in our room and set up when we arrived.

Breakfast on the large front porch is second to none. Fresh scrambled eggs, French toast, and fresh fruit and yogurt are only the beginning.

The Terrace Inn is located in the middle of Bay View which is a community of approximately 400 pristine Victorian cottages built from the 1870’s through the late 1800’s. The setting is far and away the most relaxing place I have ever visited. We really enjoyed walking throughout Bay View and finding our favorite cottages, and jogging the pristine trails in the back of Bay View and of course the private beach in Bay View is always a fun time for all of us.

My wife loved the over-sized Victorian style bed and the quaintness of our room. Most importantly my wife really likes how clean the rooms are which has become more important than ever before since our daughter was born. She also thought the classic books at the top of the staircase were fantastic as some of the books were over a hundred years old.

On the morning of the 4th of July we enjoyed watching the Bay View Association’s 4th of July parade from the front porch of the Terrace Inn while drinking our morning coffee. The fireworks that evening were the best as it was quick walk to the beach where we watched two fireworks shows, Petoskey’s and Harbor Springs over Little Traverse Bay.

The Terrace Inn is a great find!

We stayed with a group of families. Several staff members told our small children that the hotel is haunted. Right before bed one staff member said they had to lock the doors so a ghost wouldn't come in. Several families the next morning mentioned their kids nightmares and lack of sleep. Don't take your kids.

We have been coming to the Petoskey area every summer for several years. The Terrace Inn is one of the high points of each trip. I love sitting out on the big back porch. The rooms are a little on the small side (but then, what do you expect for a hotel built in 1911?) but the management has done a really nice job of sprucing the place up.

Room Tip: I prefer the rooms on the upper floors at the back of the motel. The trees are too big to really ge...

Long weekend in July with my wife at the Inn; staff was helpful and responsive, pointing out hiking trails and explaining the history of the fascinating Bay View area. In the middle of the Bay View community, the Inn has a nice front porch for breakfast dining, with a back porch suitable for reading and relaxing. The lobby has comfortable leather chairs, two pianos and entry into the main dining room.

The rooms are on the small side, which is to be expected with the vintage Inn. Because of when the Inn was built (1911), there are no elevators, but a somewhat creaky stairway. The breakfast, which is included, contained fresh scrambled eggs, french toast or pancakes, sausage, yogurt, fruit, granola and a potato/cheese/bacon/onion concoction that tasted good.

The Bay View neighborhood association is quite fascinating, with seasonal cottages, over 400, many of them built from the 1870s to the 1890s. Walking along and seeing the different styles of the houses is quite entertaining - a beautiful area, with very friendly people.

If you are looking for a charming get away in a historic inn, within a beautiful area, very close to Lake Michigan (within eyesight of the Inn), and offered at a reasonable cost, come to the Terrace - you will really enjoy it.

We went to the Terrace Inn recently to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and our expectations were surpassed. The Inn was built in 1911, hence the name for their restaurant, It is a very quaint and historic place situated within the very charming and historic Bay View neighborhood association. You will love just walking through the neighborhood and marveling at all of the beautiful historic homes. We stayed in room 203 which is in an ideal location at the top of the stairway (no elevators here). This room was wonderful.....a little small but still it was more than adequate and filled with very nice period furniture. The bathroom was very nice but the best part of the room was the extremely comfortable king size bed. When.....not if we return....this is the room I will try to reserve again!

We started our one night stay in Petoskey, which was where we got married, by walking a couple blocks to rent some bicycles. There is a fantastic bike path that I believe goes all the way to Traverse City. We rode our bikes out to the Bay Harbor resort and found a place to have a cold drink.....the weather was absolutely perfect. When we returned to the Inn we were just in time for their happy hour special. The Inn's restaurant has a very nice main dining room as well as alfresco dining on the porch which is where we had dinner. During dinner there was a small band playing very nice music on the porch one level below us which really added to the ambience. The restaurant has a very impressive menu. At the last second both my wife and I switched from our original choices and opted for the night's special, prime rib, based on the recommendation of our waitress. Now this is my only complaint and I don't want to make a big deal about this. Both my wife and I like our beef red.....she is a rare girl (in more ways than one!) and I am a medium rare guy. The slices of prime rib that we were served were well done without any trace of pink......a fact that was immediately acknowledged by our waitress. Now I know many people would have sent the meals back without a thought but we were sort of on a schedule since there was a concert within Bay View that evening that we wanted to attend. The waitress did offer to let us order something else from the menu but concerned about the time it might take we declined. Although the prime rib was done way beyond our preferences the meat was still flavorful. When the waitress checked back five minutes later we said things were ok but that we were disappointed with the meat being over done. The waitress did provide us with complementary desserts which were fantastic (strawberry shortcake and berry crisp). I think a better option the waitress should have chosen is that she could or should have discovered that there were no rare or medium rare slices as soon as she put our order in. At that point she could have immediately informed us of this and then we could have ordered something more to our liking.

But notwithstanding that small disappointment our stay at the Terrace Inn was delightful. I also want to mention the fabulous breakfast that came free with our accommodations.....it was a really nice buffet and everything was delicious!

Room Tip: Room 203 is a great choice!

Terrace Inn is a must stay place in Bayview! Cozy old-style Inn right in the heart of Bayview! Rooms comfortable, high-quality linens, up to date, and all of the staff were beyond friendly-helpful. The Inn's Restaurant had excellent cuisine, breakfast included-scrumptious. Must have the desserts-home-made on sight as is all their food. The owner was even out and around amongst the guests, friendly conversational. There was a resident artist painting each day we were there. Would definitely stay here again, and again, and again.

Room Tip: First floor room was quiet and easy access to lobby, and restaurant.
