Port Austin, MI is at the very tip of the Thumb. The beaches, boats, restaurants and shops just scream vacation paradise. It's an easy drive from our home in Toledo, OH. with the added bonus of being cooler during the torrid heat of July. The Blue Spruce was chosen based on other reviews I found online. It proved to be an excellent choice based on cleanliness, room size, and wonderful pool. The owner is warm, friendly, and helpful. It's all been recently updated and renovated. In the future I would not even consider staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: I didn't see inside the cabins, but when it comes to motel rooms, 8 and 12 are the largest. We c...

We stayed here for a getaway weekend. Didnt know what to expect with it being a mom and pop place, but when we got there, we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a one room cabin but we had plenty of room with two adults. The cabin was clean and tidy as well as the grounds. We loved the pool. It was very clean and warm. Plenty of chairs to lay out as well. We sat out front of our cabin every morning, watching the people go by. Not much to do in town, but they did have a few nice restaurants. The sunset at the Harbor was amazing and romantic. We are already planning on staying here next summer as well.

We have stayed at this location many times visiting our relatives over the years. We have always found the rooms clean with sufficient space to move around etc. Many of the motels in vacation areas such as this are older and outdated.
This was updated/remodeled , much similar to the large chain motels etc. No pool that I'm aware off.
They have two sections, we always stayed in the rear, newer units. Not familiar with older units which are all connected and inline ( have been remodeled) like the older style motels, however maybe slightly cheaper.
Its located on the main street , this area is neat and well maintained, 4 or 5 blocks from down town, walking distance.
Prices are about par with others. In some of many other motels in the area, you may find cheaper units.

But just OK. We went to the "tip of the thumb" in Mich because we wanted to see and/or kayak around the interesting rock formations in Lake Huron. Really, the only negative thing about our stay was the proprietor, who could not have been less interested in the rocks, where they were, how we might see them, or anything else that a tourist in his small town might ask about. Finally he dug out a brochure about the county.
The room was adequate but the bed was very uncomfortable, hard and plastic covered. There was a little table in the room but no comfortable chair, and no place to put the suitcase. The towels, for $83 a night, were very thin. It was clean though.
