What a great way to discover local history. It truly is a step back in time where you can experience the wonderful architecture, interior decor and exterior gardens. It's a great place to have lunch, too.

Meadow Brook Hall the home of lumber baron Alfred Wilson and Matilda Dodge Wilson is unique in that it is a beautiful, magnificent mansion but unlike so many mansions it has warm, homey feel to it. Little things like the door knobs illustrate the lumber influence of its owner, or the influence of the child whose bedroom it was. Matilda Dodge Wilson's bedroom is beautiful, the dining room is grand and I love the library and the solarium. The grounds are beautiful as well. I've seen quite a few mansions from the east coast to the west coast including the Vanderbilt mansion and the Hearst mansion but Meadow Brook is my favorite. If you get a chance to go back in the winter Meadow Brook is beautifully decorated for Christmas. I would check with Meadow Brook before going to make sure you can get the complete tour since they have many special events going on.

Depending what time of year you visit you may tour the Dodge mansion (Meadowbrook Hall), possibly the almost life size play house and gardens. At the holiday time the Hall is decorated. Some behind the scenes tours are offered. Check for availability. These behind the scenes let you visit areas not normally found on the general tour.

Love going here in the summer, perfect for summer nights! It was ridiculously hot out when I last went but still had fun anyway!

I hadn't been here in well over 20 years, but it is still beautiful. Our docent was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was interesting for adults, but I wouldn't recommend it for kids. Come back in December with the children for their holiday tours - much more kid-friendly.
