“Perfection !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2005

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights after our wedding and for just those 2 nights you could tell this hotel was in a class all of its own !!
We had originally planned to stay at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn, a choice I wasnt so thrilled about as we had taken a tour of the rooms/suites and they were very small and the decor was quite bland and old fasioned, also the ritz was in what looked like a business park, Anyway we had heard about the 'Royal Park' and we decided to go check it out...

As soon as you drive into the large parking lot you will know you're in for a treat !! the building is situated a 2 minute walk from the main street in Rochester and is right on the banks of Rochester Creek. the area is quiet and not really in a built up environment. Its a new building and is very attractive looking, The lobby is very spacious and airy with a very helpful concierge desk. The interior in general is very plush and you can tell they really thought hard about the lay out of the place and the colors. The gift shop is very well stocked with everything from the jam and coffee they use (which by my own admission is great !) to general everyday bits and pieces like toothpaste. The library is well stocked, and tastefully furnished with complimentary refreshments.

ok, now the room... the room was Perfect, it was only a 'standard' room but the standard rooms are quite literally massive, The bed was huge and had the most comfortable sheets and duvets we had ever slept on. The room was very tastefully decorated too with a huge TV and generous closet space. The best part was the balcony. Be sure to ask for a room on the creek side of the hotel as the rooms have balcony's that look over the creek, the balcony's also have tall shrubs on either side so the people in the next room cant see into your balcony.

We hit it really lucky as there are two rooms with patio balcony's, these balcony's are again huge and are great to sit out and listen to the creek on with a nice hot mug of coffee in the morning (or night, courtesy of the patio light).
The room we stayed in was larger than one of the standard rooms that overlook the courtyard and was the size of a large suite at the ritz !! tho this makes them slightly more expensive than the smaller standard rooms overlooking the courtyard. The room we had did not have a bath but what it lacked with a bath, it made up for with an amazing shower !.. also the bathroom is very well stocked with goodies and has about a dozen different lights and lamps you can play with. Now I have to warn you, anyone staying at this hotel is liable to fall in love with the bathrobes.... oh my gosh are they amazing... I quite literally wanted to wear it all day it was that comfortable.. We had a joke with the concierge who invited our guesses as to how much one would cost.. unfortunatly my lame but very very hopefull guess of 40 bucks fell short by some $70..not the kind of money Im used to spending on bathrobes. But seriously treasure each moment you get with those robes !!!

The service was again perfect, the staff are very polite and always have smiles and are eager to assist in whatever way possible. The maid service was very good and were very friendly, unlike some hotels where the maid service is something to be feared. The breakfast included was a standard breakfast but was filling and cooked well and bought it to our room in a heated compartment. Also they make sure you have your slippers too.. I dont why I like that as I never ever wear them, but I always seem to associate complimentary slippers next to your bed with a quality hotel.

Unfortunatley we didnt eat here aside from breakfast, but judging from the menu, you wont be dissapointed.

In general this hotel beats what local competition it has hands down..The hotel is also a member of ' The Leading Hotels Of the World' and as it is only a year or so old, thats some achievement !! If your a businessman/holidaymaker in the area and you have to choose between the Royal Park and the Townsend or Ritz, or any other hotel in the metro Detroit area, stay here !! You will come away with a new favourite hotel and fond memories of the bath robes !!
