I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights while in Detroit recently. It is VERY close to the airport. Jets fly over the hotel ALL THE TIME. Yet, from our room on the first floor we were still able to sleep without any problems. You can tell that the area of town where the hotel is located is not what it once used to be, however the same can be said for many places in Detroit. The staff was very friendly and did a great job of making us feel welcome, even though we arrived very late on the night we were supposed to have checked in. They were still very accommodating. The breakfast was good enough to get us full and started for the day. I really appreciated that.
The only knock that I have on this hotel really has nothing to do with the staff, location, or food... It is all about the age of the property. This hotel is old, and the building and rooms show it. The carpet in our room was so matted down that the rollers from my suitcase didn't even make a mark on the carpet. This property could use a total remodel/update/makeover. Easy for me to say when I am not the one that has to pay for it, but honestly the great service and great location are dimmed slightly by the age of the property.
With that said, I would stay here again simply because of the great staff and great service that I not only experienced, but also witnessed being given to others.
