Romance was in the air from the moment we entered the Montague Inn of Saginaw!

As we entered the Robert room and discovered the champagne on ice and rose petals gracefully covering the floor and bed, my husband was delighted to see that the Inn respected his wishes for attention to detail. The dozen red roses he ordered were placed near the bed and the fireplace was lit, just as he had requested.

Our private dinner for two in the library was the icing on the cake. Needless to say, our 1st Anniversary was very special...for both of us!

We stayed at the Montague Inn several times off and on during the summer and fall of 2007 under terrible circumstances, my 83 year old mother was dying of cancer. The thought of staying at a hotel was difficut but I found this was not just a "hotel", it was oddly soothing and made the ordeal a little easier. First of all, it is lovely, inside and out. The rooms are all different, each with their own indiviudal charm and character. Some are "cozy", others are quite large, but all of the them inviting and comfortable. I felt like I was staying with a wealthy relative instead of a hotel. The library room was full of books which I devored as an avid reader. The patio was charming, perfect for morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. One odd event occured, one morning we woke to find we were literally the only people in the inn. Not only were their no other guests but there was no staff either. We actually went in the kitchen and made the coffee and helped ourselves to the "complimentary" breakfast items, bagles and muffins. Which leads me to say, the breakfast is very disapointing and needs to be improved. Eventually the staff arrived and everybody blamed everybody for the confusion as to who was suppose to have been there that morning. We had enjoyed the solitude. Since we usually stayed during the week (the rates are cheaper) it was normally quiet, there would be the occasional business traveler we were often the only guests. Other times the Inn seemed to fill up almost like magic, and we would find ourselves in the cottage behind the main lodge. The cottage appears to be very quiet and charming but it is actually noiser than the main bldg. We could hear everything from the room adjoining ours and we had routine issues with the ac or the heat, it just never was truly comfortable. Also the rooms are very small and lack the charm of the rooms in the Inn. Also, I cannot recommend that you dine at the Inn. It is very expensive and the menu rather lackluster. But overall it is beautiful Inn with tremendous potential. It has management issues for sure but they try hard to please and I look forward to going back under better circumtances.
