A fascinating collection of items from years gone by many of which I remember my parents and grandparents owning. It would be interesting to go on a day when there is an activity but we had the place almost to ourselves as it was the Monday after they had just opened for the season.
I went to the annual Plough Day and yet again an excellent event. Ploughing matches, heavy horses, food & craft stalks, classic cars and the Museum itself. Something for everyone.
The November Food & Craft Fair had over 30 stalls with a wide variety of goods for sale. A bitterly cold day but it didn’t detract from another good event.
Finally, after lockdown, a visit to an event at this excellent and interesting museum. The event had classic cars, lorries, motorcycles, cycles and vintage stationary engines. The museum has had some major changes since my last visit and the displays have been refreshed with some new artefacts. A new temporary display entitled “Treasures of Ramsey Abbey” tells of the history of the Abbey and the social history over time. The day was rounded off with a refreshing cup of tea and a slice of delicious home made cake.
Great museum offering superb value at £3 adult entry with extensive insight into this town and it's agricultural heritage and social history. Inspired events run by helpful and dedicated volunteers
Another excellent event at this superb museum. The annual Plough Day was again a brilliant day out despite the weather not being as some would hope for. Plenty of stalls with all sorts of crafts and food. Ploughing competitions with both vintage tractors and heavy horses, the latter beautifully decked out in their finery. A good selection of vintage vehicles on show. I took the opportunity to go round the museum to see some of the changes that have been made over the past twelve months. A great day out.
We went on spec and saw a way of life mostly long gone.Horses ploughing and old fashioned tractors being used.
The collection of farm inplements and general examples of old ways of life were excellent.Try the cafe as well, good value home cooked cakes etc
