My fiancee and I are getting married in Saugatuck this coming August.
My future mother in-law and I traveled around Saugatuck yesterday in hopes of finding the perfect place for my future husband and I to stay in on our wedding night, as well as find a place for the wedding party to stay. We went to numerous B&B's and hotels, the Belvedere was the last on our stop and boy were we disappointed!! Upon arrival, we went to the front door, rang the door bell and knocked for about 15 minutes as the door was locked. Finally, we got their number from our visitors guide in the car and called them to tell them we were standing on their porch waiting for someone to come to the door. A man came to the door, opened it up a few inches and said VERY rudely, "We aren't giving afternoon tours...what do you want?" I was almost speechless but I managed to say, "We are just inquiring about your pricing for August, I am getting married and we would like to find out more about staying here for our wedding night." He was quick to tell us they don't book the rooms until they have "their" wedding season decided (I guess they do weddings there for under 100 people) and their brides and grooms get first dibs on the rooms. He told us they were completely booked up for the day and we could not have a look around the property or see any of the rooms. I was quick to say, thank you for your time and bolt for the door. I have NO desire to ever stay here or come back after the way we were so rudely treated!! If you want a great place with a friendly staff, go to 4 Seasons (now called Birds of a Feather Inn) or The Maplewood Hotel. We won't be back!
