“Quite a workout...”
Reviewed 21 September 2013

Not really a park - just the stairs to the top of Mt. Baldy. The climb of 302 very steep steps is harder than it looks....even with benches to rest on every so often. A pretty view of Saugatuck Harbor but the trees blocked our view of Lake Michigan. You can climb down the dune to the beach on the other side, but your car is still parked on the parking lot side. Not a good climb for anyone with bad knees...joints still hurt the next day! Not worth the climb to me but lots of people seemed to enjoy huffing and puffing their way up there!

“Long trip up but worth it”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

My daughter and I made the trip up the stairs earlier in the summer, then again up the dune side over Labor Day weekend. The view of the harbor from the top was spectacular. Both routes up the hill require quite a bit of endurance.

“Be In Shape Or Pass”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

This place really isn't a park although there are a few picnic tables scattered about. Located at a dead end, it butts up against the K River and offers scenic views.

But the main attraction here are the steps up to get to Oval Beach. Yes, there are 302 of them with landings every 20 or so. It is daunting and challenging and kids love to run up and down. However if you are not in shape, except hours and even days to recuperate from the walk up. On top, there is a tiny outlook and then you can take the sand dune down to the beach.

“Lots of Stairs...”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

We didn't get to the other side...we climbed the 300 + stairs to get to the top, only to realize that our camera was out of charge. Lots of nice views from the top. Our legs felt like jello for a few hours after. It's worth the climb up, and if we didn't have our kids with us we probably would have spent some time on the other side (the park).

“303 steps to a beautiful view of Lake Kalamazoo and downtown Saugatuck”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

If your knees and health permit, don't miss this little bit of exercise to a gorgeous view of the bay and downtown Saugatuck. For fun, have the kids read all of the silly notes previous climers have left along the way on the stair rungs. Our favorites: Bazinga!; I think I can, I think I can; You can do it!; Believe; I could be in my hotel watching TV; and half-way there...the kids then ran down the dune to Oval Beach while we drove the car around the mountain to park. During their descent they came across a small herd of deer in the dunes. A very nice way to spend an hour with the family. Free parking at the Mt. Baldhead Museum, right at the base of the stairs. Restrooms as available as well.
