Our stay at Marywood Manor was fine but not exceptional. We stayed in the Singapore Suite, right off the front porch. The suite was clean but small - both the "living room" and the bedroom seemed crowded. The homemade granola was the high point of the breakfast for us. The Manor is in a convenient location. We have stayed in much nicer B & Bs for significantly less money.

Armed with a gift card, we stayed at a B&B for the first time. After looking on the web for info on B&Bs in Saugatuck, we decided on Marywood Manor. It was a wonderful experience. Jan and Gary, the owners, were very hospitable and pleasant. Jan perpared two wonderful breakfasts. The hot dishes (quiche and strata) were delicious. There was also a great choice of healthy foods--muffins, yogurt, granola, frut, juice and more (I know I'm forgetting some). If you did not leave without a satisfying breakfast, it was your own fault. The suite was very pleasant and clean. While not cheap, the price was very fair, and we certainly received good value. We would certainly recommend Marywood Manor to anyone coming to Saugatuck.

Room Tip: We only entered our own suite, which we were quite happy with, so we cannot provide any comparisons...

My husband booked us a weekend stay at Marywood Manor to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. This was our first time visiting Saugatuk and first time staying at a B&B, so we were a little unsure what to expect. Our "suite" was lovely. It included a cozy little living room with sofa bed, kitchen table, fireplace, and large screen TV. The bedroom was not huge, but was spacious enough so that we didn't feel claustrophobic and the bed was comfortable enough. The bathroom, on the other hand, was very small (shower was comparable in size to ones on cruise ships). Gary greeted us upon arrival and gave us a tour of our suite and the kitchen. We got a chuckle out of his "gruffness." His tour included a lecture on how to operate the coffee maker, a lecture on arriving prior to check-in time, a lecture to not touch ANYTHING in the refrigerator, and concluded with a lecture that "if we made a mess in the suite, it would stay a mess because they aren't housekeepers." Jan is definitely the more welcoming of the two. She was there each morning to fix a nice breakfast and chat over coffee. The location was fine and was a close walk to the shops and restaurants. At night, it was quiet and provided us with a relaxing place to unwind - which was what we were looking for. I noticed some of the other nearby B&Bs and they appeared to be a little more modern and up-to-date, but perhaps they are more crowded, as well. As for our stay at Marywood, we enjoyed it and it definitely met our needs for an easy, quiet, quick getaway.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Oval Beach Suite, which is adjoining to the kitchen. I suppose this could be a goo...

It was our 2nd stay with the Kemps' and we were so glad they had a suite. Enjoy the interaction/conversations that are always a part of our stay. Jan's breakfasts are simple and elegant and always tastey, the presentation is delightful. Gary is always very thoughful and attentive, they are gracious hosts. Our suite was peaceful and restful the Inn is on the end of Mary St so it's quiet and the Gardens are lovely.
A lovely and gracious Place to stay as are the InnKeepers. CZile, In

The Inn is in a good location and the rooms are nicely decorated, but I would never go back again. The reason is because of Jan and Gary. They actually made my family and I uncomfortable from the time we checked in until the time we left.
The check in was a lecture one would give to a child not a welcome to four adults. The breakfast was far from gourmet. The food was average. Jan seemed to think everything she offered was out of this world, but I don't think a cold crosissant from the freezer merits a gourmet title. The portions were small but that was to allow leftovers for them. I did not appreciate Jan handling the food with her hands, a pair of gloves while serving would have been more sanitary.

Cups at the inn were chipped and when brought to Jan's attention, she was a bit defensive, saying her cups were not chipped; although several were. Gary and Jan did hang around way more than needed, which gave a feeling that we were not supposed to touch anything. The little remarks from Jan were mostly unfriendly.

I would not recommend to anyone or go back when in Saugatuck next time. In fact, they manage other units, and I will avoid those too since they are so unpleasant.

We were celebrating our anniversary & wanted to stay close to downtown...It was perfect from beginning to end..When we arrived, they gave us a nice bottle of wine for our anniversary & we were lucky enough to check in early...We unloaded our bags & were downtown in a short 10 minute walk...
The accommodations were lovely & the best waffles ever for breakfast...

In the evening, we sat on the screened in porch either sipping on a glass of wine or enjoying a cup of special brewed coffee...

Room Tip: we stayed in the Singapore suite which was off of the screened in porch...The sheets were wonderful...

Jan and Gary are the charming proprietors of the Marywood Manor B and B. They offer clean, updated accommodations in the inn or in nearby cottages that they manage. Guests benefit from Jan's talent for cooking breakfast and cakes and her love of good warm beverages. We have stayed at the inn several times and prefer the "Oval Suite" on the first floor with its doors opening into the kitchen and screened in porch. Jan has a rule that anything left out on the counters is fair game for guest consumption, provides 24/7 fresh fruit, cakes, snacks, and warm beverages from that "be careful now how you use that single cup coffee machine" with its attached explicit directions. This July the "Oval Suite" sported a fresh coat of paint and other upgrades. We moved across the street to a delightful small cottage with central AC suitable for a couple with or without two children. The cottage and Oval Suite have a fridge but the cottage has a full kitchen and laundry facilities. The real treat at the cottage is the private garden and patio in back with barbecue and chiminea stocked for use.
Saugatuck-Douglas is a getaway treat for all, but it is an especially convenient destination for we midwesterners who would like to go to a quaint town like Carmel, California but who do eschew the inconvenience and expense and time commitment of cross country air travel. From Chicago pack the car, hit the road, and arrive in Saugatuck, Michigan unscathed by TSA and fuel surcharges, etc. in couple of hours and with change in your pocket!
Favorite side trips include Crane's Pie and Orchard and nearby Fennville Winery, Wavecrest Nursery, Oval Beach Saugatuck, Douglas Beach, and many more.

Room Tip: Unless you are fond of second floor walk up rooms, stay in one of the first floor rooms or suites.
