“Great Location / Spacious Accomodations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

On a recent day trip to Saugatuck we decided to look into spending the night. Since it was a week day in early June, we had a number of places to choose from, but decided on the Butler Street Flats, managed by Bella Vita Spa and Suites. We got an enormous 2 bedroom 1 bath flat overlooking Butler Street for a very reasonable price. The flat was nicely designed and had a full kitchen. The location could not be beat. Would highly recommend this place. I think the huge living room also had a pull out sofa, so you could easily fit 6 adults in the place. Really glad we decided to stay and found a new place to frequent in the future!

Room Tip: The Flats are right over a bar and one of the bedrooms are right over the street. They provide ear p...

I was lucky enough to have a relative live in Saugatuck for a few years. Ever since she moved, we didn't know where to stay for a visit. We don't have that problem anymore! The House on the Hill is a property that Bella Vita offers, and its location is perfect! The gardens and sun room make up for the lack of water, and the local coffee shop is a few minute walk away. If you've been to this wonderful little beach town, you already know how special it is. The service you'll receive from the staff fits right in. The after hours manager was attentive and eager to help, even when our problem had nothing to do with the property. I'll stay again, and I've already recommended Bella Vita Spa and Suites to friends.

**Good Things First

Excellent Location
Excellent View from the patio
Very Clean Apartment
Very spacious
Well decorated
Nice appliances
Nice Kitchen
Nice Living room / Dinning room
Nice second bathroom (in hallway)
Wonderful Large Master Bedroom and amazing bed (the one with the bathroom and sky-light)
Nice Management & Staff
Located very close to the Bella Vita Spa & Suites location

**Not So Good (starting from the outside)

Garbage cans located in the pathway leading to the entry way makes it hard to bring luggage inside and could be manicured a little to look more inviting (maybe add some hanging flower pots on the gate).

Why is there a note on the inside door to the apartment asking guests to not use the double lock? Its inside the door so its confusing. Customers want to feel safe while in the apartment so of course they are going to use the double lock. If there is some malfunction with the lock, it should be fixed or at least explain WHY guest should not use the lock and do you mean while in the apartment. ..when leaving the apartment or both??!

The patio needs work. Just a little time and effort will improve the patios look greatly. The weeds (or whatever they are) growing on the deck floor need to be pulled. The empty flower pots and broken bench should either be repaired/flowers planted or removed, The wood on the patio floor and the furniture needs to be power washed and stained. The umbrella to the patio furniture needs to be secured so that it does not blow away (no base or string to tie it down), the extra table (white next to grill) needs to be repainted, the grill needs to be covered and cleaned after each guest (in fact you should make the guest clean it or charge a fee if not cleaned), the doors that lead to the patio need to be repaired and secured with a better locking system (as Im typing this..one of the patio doors (the one close to the TV) is blowing open and air is coming in from outside). The patio door can lock... But if you pull it or the wind blows hard...the two doors swing back and forth (without completely opening all the way) allowing air to blow through and can be scary if you are in the bedroom and don't know what the noise is...I was sleeping on the couch so it didn't scare me but it was disturbing.

Another lamp is needed by the dinner table (its too dark right there), light blubs need to be replaced by the patio doors (by the dinner table).

Basic instructions are needed in order to work the TV/Cable box. Not everyone has cable TV or this kind of setup/remote. Also, instructions are needed for the oven/stove :) I'm sorry but it took me a minute to understand how to start it but it's very nice and modern.

The second bedroom (without the bathroom): This room is very clean but could be so much more. The first thing is that there is no TV in this room (there is one in the other bedroom). Some people like to watch TV before bed or while laying in bed and this is not possible. I guess they would have to stay in the living room (like I did) until they were done watching TV. There is also a lack of decorations in this room. By adding a rug, chair and more art work on the wall, it would make this room feel nice and cozy. OK...Now the BED in this room was awful! It was like sleeping on bricks! I slept in the living room on the couch most of the time. I don't know...maybe most people like hard beds! Overall this room just feels unfinished like you just moved in and didn't unpack. Kind of cold and empty. I really wanted to enjoy this room but was forced to sleep on the couch :-(

Would I recommend this place? YES and I would certainly stay here again. However, they really need to get another mattress in the second bedroom!!!!!

Room Tip: The Harbor View is a nice place to rent if you are traveling with family or friends and need more ro...

We stayed in Butler Street Flats B. 2 Bedroom, 1 bath and they set up a aerobed for our 3rd child which was very comfortable. It was a PERFECT location and condo. You literally walked out the door and everything was there in downtown area. Super clean and comfortable. Had washer and dryer which was great for the kids. We were in the back of the building so we didn't hear any noise from the street and it had a nice big balcony out back where you could eat or just relax and have a drink. Owner was very accommodating and extra supplies were at the spa next door. Thanks for an awesome stay!

Our last minute decision to stay at Bella Vita paid off. We truly enjoy Saugatuck and this time we enjoyed it even more thanks to Kevin and his staff and his great concept.
The decorating was on trend, the amenities and snacks were great and the location is perfect for shopping and restaurants.
We will return.

Thank you for the great review and noticing the details that set us apart. Kevin and the rest of the staff look forward to your return!

We have stayed in the first floor suite several different times during the past three months - very nice, romantic. The from has everything we needed including a fireplace. The room was spotless. The room includes a great parking spot.

Thanks for the love! The Taurino and Piedmont Suites on the first floor are two of our most popular rooms and we are happy to hear you enjoyed one (or both) of them. The fireplaces certainly do add that touch of romance in our clean, cozy rooms. Thank you for being our guests on multiple occasions and hope you continue to do so in the future!

We stayed here for three days after finding our usual go-to hotel in Holland was completely sold out. This was a great alternative, as it's close to our family in the Holland area and has everything you need in one compact area. You get off street parking, which is a plus in Saugatuck, as well as a private entrance and a large suite. Our room was on the ground level (Taurino) and included a huge walk in shower, kitchenette, king bed, fire place and heavy beamed ceiling. We walked at night to either Phil's, the Butler or Hercules (all good dining options) and enjoyed coffee at Uncommon Grounds every morning. We didn't take advantage of the spa, but checked it out and it looked lovely. I can see how it might be loud in the height of summer, but in December it was blissfully quiet.

Room Tip: Get a room not facing Butler Street.

Thanks for the fantastic review! It was a pleasure being able to accommodate you when your other hotel was full. December is an excellent time to visit Saugatuck – the lights downtown are beautiful! We are happy to hear that you found the room and amenities comfortable and that you were able to take advantage of our great location downtown. We sincerely hope you will stay with us again, and hopefully will be able to treat yourself to some spa services next time as well!
