We stayed in the suites that were priced at $300 a night for the holiday. Let me start off with the only positive of the property which is an awesome view. The negatives includes an EXTREMELY unwelcoming and unfriendly hotel staff, a room that has seen better days (the furniture was uncomfortable and old), the bathroom is TINY, the tv was small with limited channels for viewing, the guests on both sides of our room were smoking (this is advertised as NON smoking) and lastly it is WAY overpriced! Saugatuck was quaint but this hotel is dreadful.

We stayed again this year. We visited with our grandsons (11 and 13).
The location is great for us. The proximity to lake Michigan and Mt. Baldy is within walking distance.....a pretty good hike but, closer than in town.
Our grandsons enjoyed the pool and loved using the Chain Ferry. We just turned them loose on their scooters. No problem.
We stayed during the "Venetian Festival". It was fun. The lighted boat parade and fireworks was a big hit. A TIP FOR YOU.....If you go during the Venetian Festival, plan on cooking out on the weber grill provided. The restaurants were packed during the weekend. (we had a complete kitchen with all the cooking furnishings you would need.)
My only complaint is; Way too pricey.
would still recommend them.

Room Tip: A good tip would be, to ask for room #300. There are no rooms above!

The Watermelon cottage is a nightmare. Cobwebs everywhere and we killed spiders every day. I don't think they've cleaned under the dressers for years. The furniture is old and dirty. It was still musty after four days with the humidifier and air conditioner running. No wi fi. AND THERE IS NO DOOR BETWEEN THE TWO BEDROOMS, which are so tiny there is no place for a suitcase in one of them. There is no reserved parking for the cottage so we had to park far away several times as all the spots were taken by hotel guests. The staff is not welcoming or helpful. They act like they are reluctantly doing you a favor if you ask for anything. The pool was really cold one day and we were told its on a timer and the water was always 80 degrees. The next day it was warmer, probably 80 degrees. It was the brush off that was so annoying.

Room Tip: Don't book the Watermelon cottage

I am so sorry to hear your recent stay with us was less than pleasant. We will certainly look into the cleaning of this unit and will get the housekeepers over there immediately to inspect and further clean the unit as necessary. Had we been informed that there was a problem prior to your departure we would have certainly sent our housekeeping staff to re-clean the unit. We do have many other units to choose from that are not so rustic, although I understand with your having a dog that those wouldn’t have worked for you, as the watermelon cottage is the only unit we allow dogs in. This is the only unit that we have that does not have wifi in the unit itself, but I did have a note in your reservation saying that you were informed of this at the time of booking.
I am sorry to hear the staff was less than accommodating. In the notes I have from your stay it shows we didn’t hear about your complaints until your departure which can make it hard to fix the problems you encountered. I can assure you however, that our staff was not brushing you off with regards to the pool. Our pool is on a heater that is set to 80 degrees. It is checked every morning, and we have not had any problems with the heating unit this year at all. The pool temperature may have felt cooler or warmer due to the outdoor temperature of that day, but it is set to 80 degrees every day.
Again, I am very sorry that your stay wasn’t up to your standards or ours. We hope you give us another chance in the future, in another unit that might better fit your needs, to make your stay in Saugatuck a fantastic one.

Great week with family of 40!! We had several rooms and cottages around the upper pool. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The ferry is less than a block away making easy to get into town. On Wednesday nights a free concert plays and we could enjoy the music from our patio.

Our four families recently spent 4 days at the Beachway Resort for a small family reunion. Two of the 4 rooms were lovely, but the 2 poolside rooms were very small & in need of fresh paint & carpet cleaning. We also were surprised to learn that we were not allowed to use the pool after checkout (11 am) & we were told that we needed to leave the premises upon checkout because it's "too confusing with new people coming in". Our Saturday was an all day rain so we hoped to use the pool Sunday morning before leaving around noon. The manager told us in a very nasty way that we could only use the pool until noon, no later. I had never heard of such a policy - most hotels/resorts let you use the facilities on check-in and check-out days. Am I wrong about this? Will never stay here again after being treated so rudely.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the lower poolside rooms. The upper rooms were much nicer.

We've been staying at the Beachway for 2 weeks every year for over a decade. It's just about 3/4 mile from OxBow, Chicago Art Institute's summer camp where my husband studies glassblowing. The Beachway is SO accessible to EVERYTHING in the area - 1/2 walk to Lake Michigan, steps to the Chain Ferry to take you to downtown Saugatuck via the Kalamazoo River and the InterUrban bus offering door-to-door service in a many-miled area. The Beachway has many apt units with 1,2,3 bedrooms, some studios and a cottage - all with cooking facilities - plus many pool-side hotel rooms, a couple of big family units and then the capability of booking spaces in a wide swath of their own property. All with access to grills, too. The pool is immaculate with plenty of chairs and chaise lounges, tables and umbrellas. Continental B'Fast available in lobby, along with games, dvds, maps, menus, pool towels, candy, etc ... and a MOST amazing and attentive staff. Housekeeping staff is directed by a most amazing woman, Hyacinth, who comes up from Jamaica "in season" and rocks this place. Owner Kathy Wilson is the hardest working woman I've ever seen and she has seen it/heard it all. We love it here and find it pastoral, calming, colorful and very genuine.

Room Tip: depends on what you're seeking; they've got it!

We stayed here for a week and whilst it's on the other side of the lake you could drive round in 5 minutes or get the chain ferry for one dollar. There is a swimming pool which is great the staff are very friendly rooms start from 120 dollars a night for a basic twin room. They don't provide breakfast but offer free coffee and do nuts as well as fresh fruit the surroundings are very pretty plenty of flowers and very relaxed lots of DVDs to rent and a very pleasant lounge area

Room Tip: The double rooms are spacious they also offer suites
